I thought the program started off very well. I had to look past the fact that Monastery was ugly as sin. [ amazon.com] I also saw some questionable Christian art. So, my first question I had was the orthodoxy of the monks. Beyond that point there are 5 people who I see only 1 really benefiting for his experience. I will be really surprised if the other 4 have a life changing event.

Actually, the architecture of the Benedictine Monastery in northern New Mexico is very much in keeping with traditions of New Mexico.

Then again, from said page on chant at the monastery ( http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/monastery/psalms/chants.html?clik=fsmain_feat1 ) : "The song [Agnus Dei] helps us focus our attention on the fact that God is truly present in the consecrated bread and wine and wants to take away our sins." That kind of language could (and you'd have to stretch things a bit) be interpreted as being theologically acceptable to Roman Catholics, but it's the sort of thing that I think not-so-subtly distorts the Latin understanding of Transubstantiation, and that's a big no-no to me-- we have Marty Haugen to do that. I was hoping that chanting monks wouldn't jump on the bandwagon!

That version of the Cherubic Hymn is certainly beautiful!
I think we should be very careful before pronouncing on the "orthodoxy" of those monks who are praying for all of us in the world "every day"

Is it me, or is the name "Prior Christian" not the best of choices? :p

I, for one, will pray that Fr. Abbot was simply misquoted.
