This poem was published in the 1914 Illustrated Calendar (Kachkovsky), printed at the Stavropegial Institute, Lvov 1913.

There are several verses I left out because of the length.

It's cool to know that there were folk,
Like this nice Kachkovsky bloke
Who knew Galicia well.
Take note of this my brothers,
Be not like all the others.
But rather, always tell:
It is as clear as you hand
Galicia in a russin land.

Ilya

It's that Halychyny are subjects and citizens of the Russian Tsar and his empire. We are not Ukrainians-- we are Little Russians.

My guess confused

Actually, Halychyna's last legitimate monarch was the Servant of God, Karl of Austria and of Hungary. smile

Illya, why did you post this twice?

John, Sts. Andrey and Klementy Sheptytsky were also royalty of Halychyna. smile

Dear ukrainiancatholic:

I get the gist of the poem, but it's being posted by someone who is himself the son of a Ukrainian Catholic priest.

Is it to show that there are still people who think that our dear Halychyna should still be dominated from Moscow? If so, I would simply reply: DUH!!!

Is he rebelling against his cultural identity?

Is he trying to incite another passionate response from us defending who we are and where we came from?

Or, perhaps he wants to draw attention to the difference between Rus' and Russia ("rus'kyj" vs. "rossijskij"). I don't know - I don't speak that Northern Ukrainian dialect well enough to know whether there's a difference. biggrin wink

Yours,

kl

Bingo, KL - I read this as Rus'. I don't have any major problem with the nature of this poem as it is at least in my opinion gloryfying the Rus' ancestry.

Dear all,

If you are so dim as to confuse русскій with russian, you obviously aren't getting me.
I know that ukraine is not russian, I might be a monarchist but I know the difference between rus', russian, and ukraine.

My father was once talking to a monk at jordanvill and when my father told him that he was ukrainian, he said "me too, where are you from" , my father said "ternopol", the monk said, "thats not ukraine that's galicia".

The reason I put it up was not to get on your nerves, but rather because it's interesting.

and kl,

You can put down your blue and yellow sword of patriotism because that is not at all what I think. What's your beef anyway. Remember that kievan history is russian history aswell. We are all slavs, russins, and brothers in Christ. What would Jesus say?
Oh, it's not krylos, it's kliros, from the greek word klir, or are you one of those "if its not ukrainian it's wrong" types that won't sing "eis polla" at pontificals.

I recomend you take a chill pill and look at the big picture. I love Ukraine, I love Russia, I love Tonga, I think think they are all cool and we can learn from each other.

Can't we all just -- get along?
Give peace a chance.
Groovy man.

Hey there Junior:

As I have explained before, the choir which I conduct is called "Krylos." I know it's a mis-transliteration, but the name is what it is. I'm not about to change it.

If I'm not mistaken, I think it was your uncle that named it "Krylos." So why don't you take it up with him, punky?

As for my "blue and yellow sword," how old were you when the Union fell? Yeah, I thought so.

Kyivan history is NOT Muscovite history. The only reason Moscow came to power is becasue it struck a deal with the invading "ordy." Does Ukie School really suck that badly in Canada?

"What would Jesus say." I suppose you, at your ripe old age, have a monopoly on that, eh?

"Give peace a chance" - go tell that to your friends at Jordanville who seem to deny any right of existence to the Church that raised you and the land that succled your forefathers.

In short, you are not in a position to reccomend anything to me, "smarkachu."
