I have been asked to translate "O lux beata lumina". I have some ideas but can anyone help with the proper translation? I only come up with, "Enlighten me, blessed light" Is that about right? Thanx! Silouan, Mary's monk

What comes after lumina? That could be critical to the translation....O lux beata is obviously O blessed light or O happy light....but what comes after lumina?

We are the lost who lived and loved
We felt the dawn saw sunset glow
For now we lie in row on row
In Flanders fields
O lux beata lumina, lumina Shine on us O blessed light, shine
The larks fly high where guns destroyed
Now poppies grow and crosses show
Where now we lie in Flanders fields
In row on row
Time like an ever-rolling stream Bears all its sons away
They fly forgotten as a dream
Dies at the break of day
We shall not sleep who lived and loved
Who felt the dawn saw sunset glow
If you break faith with us who lied
In Flanders fields
O lux beata lumina, lumina Shine on us O blessed light, shine
From failing hands we throw the torch
Our light be yours to hold it high
For now we lie in Flanders fields
In row on row
Time like an ever-rolling stream
Bears all its sons away
They fly forgotten as a dream
Dies at the break of day
O lux beata lumina Shine, O blessed light
Our light be yours

XB!
I suspect 'lumina' is being used in the sense of 'shine thou'.
Hence: O Blessed Light, shine!
Hope that helps...
in Domino,
Edward

At last the magister has arrived. Now Edward whats this Domino business? As one who inclines to the OBs I would have expected something more Byz. Unless you are inclined to Domino pizzas and this is a less than subtle hint to promote them. ICXC NIKA
