My name is Ken, but I use Turpius on various forums. I am a friend of Berean/Roger whom I know some of you have met. While I am not a Baptist like Roger, we do have....similar views and temperments. I am currently researching for a book I'm getting ready to write on the Intertestamental Period. Roger tells me there are some friendly folks here. If I ask too many questions, just "slap" me up-side the head!

Ken, Welcome to the Forum. Glad to meet any friend of Roger, who is well-respected here. I have to admit that the description of yourself in your profile as an "eclectic fundamentalist Christian" gave me pause - my first thought was "here we go again" . Glad to see my fears were unfounded . There are never too many questions, although there is frequently not enough time to answer them all. Many years, Neil

Welcome to the Forum! I don't know if you plan on tackling the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha or not. This is one interesting site I discovered recently: http://www.katapi.org.uk/OTApoc/Contents.htm#Contents It's an online version of a work by an Anglican writer of the early 20th century that seems well done.

DTBrown, YES!!! that does very nicely. Thank you very very much!!! Yep, Hard to research that time period without refering to the Literature of the time! Neil, I wasn't quite sure how to phrase my background, since I currently am not a member of any church, the last one I belonged to closed it doors awhile ago, due to lack of people! But my background (theologically speaking) is Christian Protestant Fundamentalist. Some of my views are more Baptistic, while others would fit closer to Eastern Orthodoxy . In most cases, I'm some what "laid back" and am perfectly willing to have a civil discussion, unlike one Roger indicated to me a day or two ago that you unfortunately had.

Dear Turpius, Welcome! (The closest saint I could find for your screen name is "St Turpin" bishop in Charlemagne's day) A friend was driving through New England when he happened on an "Orthodox Presbyterian" church. He was so eager to get to a phone and tell me that Orthodoxy had one more liturgical rite . . . and did I want any "Presbyterian icons" for him to bring home . . . Alex

Hi Alex!
re:Orthodox Presbyterian Church. LOL!!! While I'm not presby, Actually I am currently attending a evening study sponsered by an OPC from nearby Columbus, here in Ohio!
I like a couple of different "saints", my "Birth-saint" (for lack of a better term)would be Anthony the Great. I also like and have a great deal of respect for Innocent of Alaska. I have read a couple of bios on Innocent and was very impressed by his energy, resourcefulness and dedication. Ken

Dear Ken, There actually WAS a Ukrainian Presbyterian church in Canada that tried to follow the Byzantine rites . . . They had an iconostasis, but no icons. I think we can BOTH agree that we are happy this experiment failed . . . What is Orthodox Presbyterianism anyway? Do they use incense? Alex

Welcome, Turpius. To echo Alex, what is an Orthodox Presbyterian. East Tennessee was settled by Scots-Irish Presbyterians in the 1700s. We have essentially 3 groups now - Presbyterian Church USA, Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), and Cumberland Presbyterian. There is a single congregation that calls itself Bible Presbyterian, but I don't know if they have any group or national affilliation. But we don't have any that call themselves Orthodox Presbyterians.
