Does anyone know if there are any Byzantine Catholic churches in Spain? I am going there for ten days next summer and I know i could easily go to a Roman Rite church but I was just curious to know if there were any BCC's over there. -Katie g

Dear Katie,
As far as I know there is no Byzantine or other Eastern rite parish in Spain. Years ago there were two Byzantine Catholic communities in Madrid and Barcelona. But if you whant something different you can attend the Holy Eucharist at some of the Spaish rite (also known as Mozarabic or Visigohic) parishes or at the Spanish rite Corpus Christi Chapel of the Cathedral Church of Toledo (near Madrid). In Madrid you cn also find two Orthodox parishes.
Yours in Christ

Dear Katie, Yes, the Mozarabic Liturgy is what you should attend, as per our brother, Francisco's, suggestion! When in Spain . . . Have a great time! And don't take any wooden peso! Alex

In the city of Almera, a city of Southern Spain, a Romanian Byzantine priest offers the liturgy in a Roman parish for some emigrees, the adress I could find was this:
Carretera Almeria 17 p2 La Mamola, Granada, Spania Tel.: 0034 680 720696

Alex Alex, she won't take any regular peso either. The monetary unit of Spain is the peseta.

Actually, the monetary unit is neither the peso nor the peseta. Spain joined the European Union years ago....the peseta is now difunct. They only use the Euro.

While we're on the subject does anyone know where you could see some of the non-Roman western rites, short of going to Spain or Milan? I know, wishful thinking. But it would be neat to see.

Christ is in our midst!
The Schola Cantorum of St. Peter the Apostle was privileged to sing Liturgy in the Mozarabic use twice. The first time was when some of the relics of the holy apostle James were given by the Church of Spain to Loyola University of Chicago. Two priests from Toledo came to Chicago as delegates of the Archbishop of Toledo, and celebrated the Liturgy. The Schola worked very hard to master the chant for the Liturgy. This liturgy was celebrated in Latin (it is also my understanding that many of the liturgical texts have been translated into Spanish, but that most of the singing remains in Latin. Shades of what is done in the Czech Republic with modern Czech and Church Slavonic! <G>)
The second time was at Sacred Heart Seminary in Hales Corners, WI, where the Rev. Dr. Raul Gomez is a professor--he also is one of the few priests who have "biritual" faculties in the USA to celebrate both Roman and Mozarabic liturgies.
There are several good recordings of Mozarabic chant available today.

Dear Snoopy,
In your last post that was not clear if the Romanian priest you are talking about is Byzantine Catholic or Orthodox, please could you tell us where did you find that address, I will try to confirm your information.
