Call for Proposals
The Christianity in Eastern Europe Project
The Christianity in Eastern Europe Project is a multi-stage, collaborative
initiative designed to bring together scholars from North America and
Europe whose research interests relate to the history of the Christian
churches (Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant) in 19th- and 20th-century
Eastern Europe.
The project will begin with a workshop, to be held June
6-10, 2005, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at which we will focus on the
methodological and theoretical challenges involved in studying
Christianity in Eastern Europe. Guests will include prominent scholars
working in the field of religious history in other times and places, in
the hope that we will facilitate comparative discussions.
Professional scholars and advanced graduate students who specialize in the history of 19th- and 20th-century Eastern Europe and who are researching topics related to the history of Christianity in the region, or who are interested in turning their research in that direction, are invited to submit a c.v. and an abstract (no longer than 500 words) of the current or proposed research project.
Send all inquiries and proposals to Bruce Berglund (brb6@calvin.edu) and Brian Porter (baporter@umich.edu) no later than December 15, 2004.
Further details about the workshop and the overall
project can be found at
