On ebay of all places, a beautiful of the Crucifixion. I can't seem to remember seeing it before. As frustrated with them as I get, I still love to check out the icons and such. OH well, maybe this last bought with the Eucharist will make them stand up and take notice.

I wonder who all is in the fore-front of the icon on the Resurrection.

I don't wish to seem critical of what is undoubtably lovely iconography in its own right, but this, to my admittedly inexpert eye, does not resemble 14th century iconography, nor have they explained what the artist was copying from, given that as a woman she would not have been allowed on the Holy Mountain. I think I should have been far more reassured had they stated the circumstances (touring icon expedition, working from photos taken by a male visitor, etc...)

It's lovely, but not at a starting bid of $450, which would not be outrageous for a hand-written icon, but then, I think, more would have been devoted to the materials and the style used, not to the work it is supposed to be a copy of...

Gaudior, eyeing this critically....
