Perhaps some of the homosexual activists coming to disrupt the World Youth Day will come to Christ. Perhaps they can be won over before pervert anymore youth.

It's completely unbelievable that Pope Benedict XVI would countenance such goings-on. So I don't believe that the Holy Father has given any form of approval to this.

Since the World Youth Day is a religious event, it is entitled to the protection of the law from anybody, group or individual, who seeks to disrupt it.

That may be so, but my unfortunate experience, is that the German law and EU regs are with this group. By rights though, they may be forced into a seperate area from the rest as not to create a public disturbance. Remember, the German mentality does not like adverse press, even from the religious media.

Restricting such a group to a separate area is fine by me. Let them do whatever it is they do, so long as they do it somewhere else!

I was so hoping that WYD has been completely canceled!

Or, better yet, only Traditional Latin Masses and Eastern liturgies allowed!

The fact is, previous WYD have lacked a certain solemnity and otherwordliness that the Church should always convey, and have seemingly been pushing the "charismatic" mentality.

The good news is that the kids who go to these events seem to really be "alive for Christ" and orthodox. I just wish the liturgics would reflect some Catholic Tradition. In time.

Our oldest son was at Denver for it. Enjoyed almost everything about WYD, but nothing could have happened to deter his faith. Praise be to God! We got him off an airplane returning from a huge scouting trip one day and put him on the bus to Denver the next. I don't think he had time to think about anything else. biggrin

Dear Friends,

I understand from EWTN that a musical band will play there that has publicly criticized the Pope!

I remember the joyful enthusiasm of WYD 2002 in Toronto!

Young people were coming into the legislature for tours and I busied myself getting bottles of water for them (it was as hot and humid as it is this summer).

I remember meeting our dear sainted Pope at the airport . . . I still have the invitation to that from our Prime Minister which I'll always cherish.

I have just recieved this in my email...........
If it is true, we need to act urgently as it says. Mark.

I write to you on a matter of grave urgency.
It has come to my attention that a
high-ranking pro-abortion bureaucrat
from the United Nations will be addressing
the opening ceremony of World
Youth Day in Cologne, Germany in a few days.

The speaker is Eveline Herfkens and she heads
the UN Millennium Campaign.
Ms. Herfkens comes from Holland where she
held many high-ranking
governmental positions including the
Netherlands Minister for Development Cooperation.

I still don't understand why this World Youth Day has not been suspended or at least reformed by the current Pope, His Holiness Benedict XVI.

The previous WYD under Pope John Paul II had very negative aspects! How can a religious organization with the moral authority of the Roman Catholic Church can support an event where the girls camp together with guys all mixed?

The weather is hot, they're all together and the girls are wearing sexy clothing. What kind of religious or spiritual reneway or meditation can you get by attending rock shows and singing guitar songs?

My girlfriend was invited last week to a Catholic "Spirit Renewal", it was hold at a stadium, she was unable to speak when she came cause she's shouted too much (was it a spiritual event or a football match?). She said there was a liturgy where the lectures were all given by women and the people danced.

To make it worse, she commented that beer was much cheaper in the north than here in the centre of Mexico! What kind of spiritual retreat they give to a 15 year old girl.

It appears to be true.

World Youth Day in Germany

Written by Caroline Kent

Cologne, August 8th 2005 - International World Youth Day kicks off in Cologne and Bonn on Monday 15th August.

Organizers are expecting around a million young people from more than 120 countries.

Many of the World Youth Day events will be geared towards informing about the Millennium Goals. For this purpose, the German Millennium Campaign, joined by Eveline Herfkens, executive coordinator of the Millennium Campaign will be speaking at the opening ceremony and informing participants about the goals.

To round up the opening ceremony, the Millennium Campaign Gates-a mobile exhibition, symbolising the partnership between rich and poor countries to achieve the goals-will be opened.

Her biography is here:

(tongue in cheek)

yes, Miss Herfkens sounds terribly sinister...

“The Church has much to say to young people, and they have much to say to the Church. This mutual dialogue must be open-hearted, clear and courageous. It fosters encounter and exchange between the generations and becomes a source of wealth and youth for the Church and society” (Pope John Paul II).

Here His Holiness doesn't sound afraid of young people... may we continue in his vison of what the young have to teach Holy Mother Church.

And spirituality is not and cannot be separated from the natural world. Young people will be young people. Most of them at WYD will behave themselves, for goodness' sake. blessing, wg

p.s. http://cathcon.blogspot.com/2005/08/wolves-in-sheeps-clothing.html... either very poorly translated or very poorly written in the first place... and very poorly researched. Amounts to scare-mongering. To be pitied indeed, sad to say.

WG,

Are we to assume you are unaware of her support for abortion?

Others,

The millenium goals are laughingly naive. Yet, without goals how does one progress. If this lady actually supports abortion I cannot see why she is heading up anything at all in the Christian world. Yet the Millenium program seems innocuous if terribly naive.

I'm immediately suspicious of a large program that combine a veneer of harmlessness with naivite. Even youth aren't this naive. Why is the Church supporting this?

CDL,

Are we to assume that some, you included, are unaware of the German Catholics who are not pleased (putting it nicely) with what the then Cardinal Ratzinger did when he shut down the work that was being done by Nuns in the area of health education among the poorest in Germany, among whom abortion was becoming less of a practice?

Catholicism is not monolithic, Dan. And most Catholics are not monosyllabic-- 'abortion' is not the only word that trips over their lips when speaking of social issues the Church may address. blessing, wg
