My husband is there, but I havn't heard a word. Of course he is in Pittsburgh and I'm in Alabama. I am sure Fr. Joe and Lance are there at least and will report in.

My Dad was at the enthronement, and at a dinner following. He said that the church was largely filled with clergy, family, and close friends, while he and a couple of hundred others were beneath the church watching on a large screen and mercifully keeping far cooler than those upstairs. Attending were Cardinal Bevilaqua and at least three orthodox bishops including Bishop Nicholas of ACROD. The responses were sung by the Archeparchial choir. I agree with totally UC that I would rather we treasure our prostopinije, but they choir sang well, and congreagational singing would be tough with so many visiting dignitaries. Metropolitan made the rounds at dinner greeting everyone there. Very down to earth was my Dad's comment.

Friends,

The enthronement went great. For those of you who were there or plan on buying the video, I am the acolyte holding the trikerion.

The Cathedral was packed. I am guessing 1500 or so. Visiting dignitaries included:

For Greek Catholics: Metropolitan Stefan of Philadelphia of the Ukrainians, Bishop Ivan of Mukachevo, Bishop Slavomir of Krizevci, Bishop Keresztes of Hadudorog, Bishop Milan of Kosice, Bishop John of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Toronto for Slovaks, Rev. Msgr. Lucian representative of Patriarch Ignace Moussa, Prefect of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches and other bishops I did not recognize (Ukrainians from Canada maybe?)

For the Orthodox: Metropolitan Nicholas of Johnstown, Metropolitan Maximos of Pittsburgh, GOA, and Archbishop Vsevolod

For Latin Catholics: Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Anthony Cardinal Bevilaqua of Philadelphia, Bishop Donald Wuerl of Pittsburgh, and several others

As well as priests, deacons, religous and faithful from all over the Metropolia.

It started raining, which threatened to cancel the procession but it stopped the sun came out and everthing went beautifully. The choir did an excellent job. Everthing flowed rather well thanks to the planning and direction of Archpriest John Petro, and Fathers Andrew Deskevich and Steven Wahol.

The video was very professionally done using three cameras and should be of superior quality.

In Christ,
Lance

Thanks, Lance, for the report.

Any info on how to order the video?

Who gave the homily? I still remember the great homily Bishop George gave at the enthronement of Metropolitan Judson (again I only saw that on tape).

Just came across this article from the Pittburgh Post-Gazette about the enthronement:

http://www.post-gazette.com/localnews/20020710byzantine0710p3.asp

I thought these paragraphs noteworthy:

His homily invoked the commitment of his predecessor to restoring authentic Eastern traditions. He urged Eastern Catholics to be involved in evangelization and in working with other Christians, especially the Orthodox.

"The liturgy and theology and disciplines of the East are necessary for the health of the whole church," Schott said.

Many years to Metropolitan Basil!

Dear Lance,

If you didn't recognize them, chances are they were Ukrainians from Canada . . . smile

Many years to your new Hierarchs, your Church and to you!

Just a point for clarification...the Ukrainian reigning bishops were not present due to the Holy Synod in Ukraine. The only representative was Archbishop Sulyk, retired Archbishop Metropolitan of Philadelphia of the Ukrainians.

The Parma eparchial choir sang at Bishop John's consecration and installation liturgy too, but only when the people were finally allowed to sing prostopinije (only an itty bitty) did the temple ring out with joy.

God grant many years to our new hierarchs!
