I don't understand those pictures. Why is antidoron being passed out before communion (assuming the pictures are chronological)? Why are communicants being allowed to handle the chalice? They appear to be drinking from it. How do they get the Lamb?

They do not receive the antidora before communion: what it is they receive is the particle from the Lamb (our Lord's Body). The chalice has only the Blood in it. In other words, it is not unlike how the Latins currently distribute communion when both the Body and Blood are offered to the faithful.

That is exactly how they also distributed communion at St Nicholas Moscow Patriarch cathedral in NYC when the Liturgy of St James was taken there a few weeks ago and I was privileged to attend.

The Liturgy of St. James preserves some of the most ancient practices of the Church, including communion in both kinds separately. The custm of mixing the elements together on a spoon is a fairly recent custom. Really? I did not know this. It's true you learn something new everyday. Could you please explain further? Do you have more information on this?

The earliest way to receive communion, attested by many ancient documents, is to receive the Lord's Body in the hand and to drink His Blood directly from the chalice.
In the Byzantine Churches, the Liturgy of St. James is only celebrated on his feasts: Oct. 23 and the Sunday after Christmas the commemoration of SS. David, Joseph, and James.

That Website is in Slovak.Incidently,I've never seen the St.James Liturgy.At Jordanville, it is served on the Day of the Saint(Nov 5th New Style).It was served in Atlanta during our Southern Missions Conference, which I had hoped to attend, but couldn't.I believe that in ROCOR Holy Communion is distributed on a spoon.

I am an Irish American but have been a Byzantine Catholic since 1970. It looked like Slovak or Polish to me.
On the Mass of St. James, I read it was only celebrated once a year ay some monistary in the Med. Sea.
And from it the Liturgy of St. Basil and then St. John evolved.

Was this ever the Divine Liturgy of Great & Holy Saturday? I note that the "Cherubic Hymn" used this day is the standard hymn in the Divine Liturgy of St. James. The Holy Saturday vesperal Liturgy is already interesting and fun (yes, I find 2.5-3 hours of chanting to be fun  ). I'm just twitching in excitement at the thought of using the Liturgy of St. James instead of St. Basil.  Σώσον, Κύριε, καί διαφύλαξον η�άς από τών Βασιλιάνικων τάξεων!
