Terry or David,

Was driving through Gates yesterday and, after I passed it, realized that I might have just seen St. Nicholas. I couldn't go back and check, because of time constraints. On Rte 31, near the intersection of Rte 386(?), was that it?

Nice looking (quick glimpse that I got), quite a change from the old church; but it looked very small - was my sense correct?. How large is the parish?

Many years,

Neil

Dear Neil,

Sorry for being tardy in replying to your message.
That was it. We're still waiting for the large icons of our dear Lord and the blessed Theotokos to go behind the altar and in the dome. They are still being written and last I heard we are looking probably into the fall before they are ready to ship and install.

I was going to ask Fr. Ken how many people make up the parish but I forgot. Any given Sunday you only get a small number of the total that are part of the parish. Whenever we have the 40 day commemoration after death it seems that people come out of the woodwork. I'll try to remember and get some idea of the number of parishoners.

From your post it appears that you have been to St. Nicholas sometime in the past. Which old church are you taking about. The old parish or where they had to set up temporarily waiting for the new church to be built.

Hopefully someday you will be passing through when something is going on and we will get a chance to meet.

Take care,

Terry

Terry,

Sorry for the delay in replying. A new computer and a change of ISP put me off-line for a couple of days. Actually, when I wrote the original post, I was thinking that I had been to St. Nicholas previously; when I was thinking about your question to me, I realized that I had not (had confused it with Christ The Savior - our parish in Yonkers - old age creeping in).

I did try to go there once, several years ago. Was in Rochester on business, spent the day in a wiindowless building and walked out at about 6pm to discover that the sunny day I remembered had become a crippling snowstorm. Ended up spending the weekend, but couldn't get a cab from the hotel to the church on Sunday morning.

Since I have occasion to travel up to Buffalo/Niagara 3 or 4 times a year, I will definitely try to schedule a future trip so that I can make it to Liturgy up there and meet you guys.

Many years,

Neil
