I have a question for y'all. My understanding is that wedding crowns are traditionally either made out of metal or myrtle in the Ukrainian Church (I'm Ukrainian Catholic). I am getting married some time this summer (to Sarai, aka A LivingSacrifice)so I've been giving the crowns a bit of thought. Around here we have Pacific Wax Myrtle and I have been hoping to find some way to make them out of that. Has anyone made such crowns before that would be able to tell me how it is done? any other thoughts? Thank you much!

Matt

Easiest suggestion: tell your friendly florist that you want a pair of matching floral wreaths (you may of course specify what to make them of) to fit your respective head sizes.

Dear Matt, we have had several sets made by a local florist. They are called "stefana" and if you search on Google I am sure you can find many pictures for examples. Myrtle is indeed wonderful.

I'll have to check out the local florists and see if they can do that for me. I'll check out the internet too, see if I can find directions. So just plain myrtle leaves is best, right? Thanks!!

Couldn't find any info about how to make them online. However, someone has lent Sarah her daughters wedding crown made out of some sort of leaves, so I'm going to check it out and see how it was made! Now I have an excuse to go see Sarah, not that I really needed one... smile

For loads of photos just type "wedding crowns" in Google Images and see what you get!

The local florist did ours which were made from laurel leaves which Father John Loya (God rest his soul) assured us were what royalty wore. Since we would be king and queen of our households, he said it was most appropriate. Both had a few leaves sprayed silver and mine had baby's breath sprinkled in -- they were very striking. We have them in a shadow box on our icon wall along with the liturgy book turned to Psalm 127. After 21 years they are sadly faded (should've had them professionally preserved). I've also seen them made from silk flowers and tied together with a length of ribbon.

At our Church they use a white artificial leaf with for the crowns. Afterwards the crowns are placed in an box - forgive my lack of terminology here - around icons of Jesus and Mary. It is trully wonderful to see them displayed in the couples home as a constant reminder of the Crowning.

Definitely use myrtle or periwinkle and nothing else.

Now THAT'S Ukrainian!

Warm wishes for many happy years together.

If you have access to "Teaching Pics" (8x11 glossy pictures) from the Orthdoox Christian Education Commission, there are 2 wonderful pictures of the wedding ceremony with the couple wearing crowns -- I can't tell what the leaves are but both have baby's breath and it looks like the bride's has white flowers (maybe roses?) entwined in hers. My scanner is broke or I'd attach photos. Sorry.
