Lots of great suggestions here.

I'd add "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood.

And, my guilty pleasure: Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue". biggrin

My Ukrainian friends say that their favority patriotic song is:

Oj u luzi Chervona Kalyna

It's ranked number 1 on this list. You may want to hear it:

While I voted for "Stars and Stripes Forever" because of it's stirring instrumentals, I love "God Bless America" as a sentimentalist.

Ironically, as I'm a pretty conservative, patriotic American guy, I love the old Soviet (Russian) national anthem.

How about "O God of Earth and Alter" by G.K. Chesterton? Different empire, same kind of Godless rulers.

Wait a second. I am confused because of apparent confusions on the part of others...

God Bless America is not the National Anthem and never has been. The National Anthem is The Star Spangled Banner.

Teen,

Where does you confusion come from? I didn't see anyone say that God Bless America is the national anthem, though I did notice a couple people saying it came close to being so or that they wished it were. One referenced the tune of The Star Spangled Banner being from a drinking song (the lyrics to which another provided). Someone else noted the tune of My Country 'Tis of Thee being the same tune as God Save the Queen. Someone else said they sang God Bless America each morning in a parochial school. All in all, no one I saw implied that God Bless America was the national anthem.

You're right, Wondering.

I had misread two earlier posts! I thought they said that GBA *had* become the National Anthem in the 1930s.

It seems to have become somewhat faddish, though, to sing GBA in place of the National Anthem during certain events, or is that just my imagination? I've seen it done quite a few times.
