The Greeks paedeogus had it right - everything in moderation. There is much truth in the fact that TV is full of trashy shows (house make up; Survivor; Bachelor, etc). YET there are occasional wonderful gems of a show - Frasier (top comedy in my mind - everyone is brilliant, esp. Roz and Eddie); The West Wing (despite its occasioanl 'sugary' feelings); Band of Brothers; The Simpsons (a witty creation; The Flinstones (my favourite cartoon of ALL time); Buffy (way out storylines but...its Sarah Michelle Geller!). On British TV, the costume dramas are top notch (something that we can beat you in! biggrin biggrin ) - Forsyte Saga, Pride and Prejudice, Midsommer murder... Two weeks ago was the most brilliant drama I have seen in a long time, by the brilliant Steven Poliakoff concerning Prince John, the epileptic and austistic son of George V and Mary. I don't usually cry but that made my eyes water. When they show it across the Pond....I RECOMMEND watching it... smile

Everything in moderation!

Dear Anton,

Frasier, yes, what a great show!

Daphne told Frasier one morning that her father had "knocked her up" before she was even awake.

To Frasier's horrified look, Daphne said, "He woke me up - what does 'knock me up' mean here in America?"

To this a relieved Frasier replied, "Oh, something very different . . . but you would definitely be awake for it . . ."

Ain't I a devil myself? smile

Dear Anton,

You are absolutely right!

And Eddie already has a head-start, what with it being a "dog-eat-dog world" and the like . . .

Aw Gawd Almighty!

Eastenders....oh my...I watch it occasionally but its hardly top of my list! Peggy is an annoyance..an annoyance I say! I like Dot... Do they have to put subtitles in America for it?

If you want good proper soaps [! smile ]...watch Neighbours...nothing ever happens there! You can miss six months of it...come back and be up to scratch within in two episodes. Its still good mindless fun...

Dear Marko and Anton,

Well, so far we three TV watchers have demonstrated that we really CAN be up to some mischief.

Hardly the stuff of which satanic sadness is made of, though . . .

Too much TV, like too much sex, can be bad for the posture . . .

Actually, the original point by the poster Ave Maria had to do with a suggestion for Christians to work on cleaning up tv so it'd be better to watch ... no objectionable things, but enjoyable things. I don't think it was meant to become a 'tv or no tv' debate.
But for those who're curious biggrin or for that matter those who aren't, no, I don't have a tv. and so I actually don't know first hand how bad things have gotten on tv in terms of ever-increasing tastelessness - I've heard about it.
I have a fondness for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" ... that's about it!
By the way, spdundas, maybe she was talking to you about doing great things for tv - aren't you in that line of work? smile

If you come across a nice re run of Star Trek The Next Generation, watch a few minutes for me.

smile best wishes to all from c of s
