Hi, y'all.

Last month, I was finally able to attend an Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy. I visited the Melkite parish of St. Basil the Great in Rhode Island, my home state. Of course, I absolutely loved it! I loved having to cross myself so much. The icons were gorgeous as well; it was great!

Since my visit, I've been talking about Eastern Catholicism to anyone who will listen. One of my friends from Massachusetts is interested in visiting an Eastern Catholic parish. Do any of you know any great Eastern Catholic parishes around the Worcester area? I would like for my friend to see the absolute best of Eastern Catholicism on her visit.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Jennifer,

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Saint Basil's, it's a beautiful temple. Father Exarch and Archimandrite Joe Hajjar and Archdeacon George Yani are great people, and have a wonderful parish community.

As to the list that Yuhannon supplied (I cut two duplicates out of it), I have had the pleasure of attending Divine Liturgy at many of these on one or more locations. I'd add to it, Saint Basil's (Melkite) Salvatorian Seminary on East Street in Methuen (only a few minutes drive from Saint Joseph's in Lawrence). The Seminary chapel is very beautiful and intimate. I don't know the current schedule for Liturgy there, but if anyone needs it, I'll give Father Martin a call and then post it.

The Melkite Cathedral of Our Lady of the Annunciation is my home parish. If you are in Boston, I'd highly recommend visiting us (we're an easy ride from Providence, I-95 to 128N to Rte 1N - we're located right on Rte 1N (VFW Parkway at that point). I'd also unhesitatingly recommend our sister parish and neighbor, Our Lady of the Cedars (Maronite). Father Eugene Mitchell, BSO, Rector of the Cathedral, and Chorbishop Joseph Lahoud, Pastor of Cedars, are both wonderful priests who serve the Divine Liturgy with great reverence.

If your friend lives in the Worcester area, I would strongly suggest Our Lady of Perpetual Help [melkite.org] , the Melkite parish in Worcester. It's a nice temple, though nowhere near as elegant as Sain Basil's. Father Paul Frechette is the pastor; both he and the parish are extremely warm and welcoming. I've never been to Our Lady of Mercy, the Maronite parish in Worcester. Those are the only two of the Massachusetts parishes that are really convenient to anyone in central Mass.

Many years,

Neil
