(sigh)

So what's the conclusion we should reach? That the U.S. soldiers are sadistic creeps who are just ripping out these innocent farmers' crops for the fun of it?

Is it even remotely possible that the farmers ARE lying? It's been known to happen.

What, people lie? The media is biased? No never....

I find myself, more and more lately, asking, what does this have to do with <insert topic here> (in this case Byzantine News).

Seems like people are posting many things that should have ended up in Town Hall topic (if at all) in other areas.

David, that's actually a much more reasonable comment than mine! smile

Could the topic be moved to Town Hall?

And the US (maybe I should have written ALL nations armed forces?) armed forces have committed atrocities in all of our military actions. Why should this war be any different? Don

I find it appalling. Should the farmers and their families be punished with starvation for their rational fear of death? The US military should have better intelligence, and much, much higher moral standards. They should not believe they have to depend on the truthfulness, cooperation or goodwill of people who have every reason to distrust them, and every reason to fear repercussions from their own people for turning in their own family members!

As I said, I find it appalling. Oh - and THIS is how we are going to make the Iraqi people love the US, and how we will stamp out terrorism. Right?

I don't buy the idea that as reservists they weren't trained. I learned how to handle POWs in basic training (a little thing called the 5Ss - including Safeguard), and I'm sure they did too in boot camp. And reservists are responsible for maintaining individual readiness, to include proficiency in common tasks, as well as common decency. But of course they haven't been convicted of anything yet and should be considered innocent until proven guilty.

I really wish we had stayed out of Iraq. I'm beginning to like the policy e-mail floating around the internet attributed to Robin Williams.....the UN headquaters sure would make a great homeless shelter for NYC wink .
