May the Lord grant to his newly-departed servant +Michael Hrubiak, blessed repose and eternal memory. Vichnaya jomu pamyat'!
The parents of a priest have a most special vocation that is not always realized. They often endure the many twists and turns along the path to ordination with their sons. Later, many of them continue to minister to the parishes their sons serve, through visitation or residence with their sons in the rectory. Many a priest's mother or father work hard answering parish phones and doors, assisting parishioners and receiving little in return. In many ways, in these difficult decades of obligatory celibacy, priest-parents have assumed the role that the Pani Matka would otherwise have played.
Likewise, the priest-sons often have the opportunity to return to their parents, the many kindnesses they extended in their younger years, by caring for them later on. The ones that the Lord has blessed to do so, many priest-parents remain active into their older years, continuing to work in parishes and/or, to support their sons.
Our church has acknowledged the special role played by the parents of a priest, by the fact that the eparchial bishop most always presides at their funerals, celebrated by their sons and by the normal courtesy extended for them to live with their sons in the rectory.
A special "thank you" goes out to all of our priest's fathers and mothers. May God bless and reward all parents of priests who have made so many sacrifices for God, the church and the ministry of their priest-sons.
Fr. Joe

Bless me a sinner, Father Joseph!
Yes, the parents of a priest have their own vocation and role to be sure.
I was raised by a son of a priest and was then blessed with the arrival from Ukraine of my priestly grandfather.
It is no wonder that the Eastern Church often canonizes the parents of a saint, as it did with the parents of St Nicholas and others.
Certainly, sainthood is something that is nurtured in the family by holy parents, as is the vocation to the priesthood or the monastic state.
Vichnaya Pamiat!

I am always stunned by the generosity of Parents who give their sons to the Service of the Church. Theirs is indeed a special vocation. Would that more would do the same.
May those left behind receive comfort knowing that he did the Will of God.
May Michael be met by the angels and taken to that place where he will rest with the Lord for eternity.
May his soul, and the souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God rest in peace.

May the Father take his servant, Michael, to Himself. May his family find consolation in their awareness of his love for them that is reflected in their love for one another.
