Packing suite case. 1x set knife fork and spoon (just in case there is lots of gravy). I table knapkin to save shirt from dribbles & sundry splashes. Copy of Loneley planet to seek out where is Kansas. Many bottles of medicinal red to be sacrificed with the roast. Oh and spare set of Mother's best bloomers just in case I get run over on the way to Church. biggrin

Did someone say we were 1/2 way through Lent. Must be, it feels like we have been in it for ages now wink .

Goats, Alpaca's, Highland cattle, all guarded by Kuvazhi and Ovcharki. 20 years ago, Vladika Hilarion blessed the site, and I have been in the process of building a log chapel dedicated to the Donskaya Bozie Materi. My plan is to someday, dai Boze, to start a skete here. I'll have to put some pics online and share it with you all. I thought that I was only one crazy enough to have such dreams.

What are Kuvazhi and Ovcharki?

Sounds amazing. I'd love to see it if I ever get out to the area. How expensive is land around them parts? Get a skete going and we'd have more incentive to start building a village around it!

Part of the equation is community itself. This has to include good entertainment - something to replace the banality and immorality for our children. We try to get folks together and have acoustic jam sessions, barn dances - not the hokey "swing yer pardner" stuff but good contra dances, Balkan and other folk dances, etc.

So we have:
Beer
Sheep
Lamb
FAST food restaurant
2 churches (one everyone attends--w/o pews--and one no one goes to)
Home school co-op
Barn dances
And a monastery
(Did I miss anything?)

Can't help with the cocoa beans, but I am pretty good with marketing and economic development. DH said he'll raise the horses. Of course, we'll want a pedestrian layout and tourists will expect to have quaint tours in a horse and buggy around the town center.

Father Deacon, if such a community ever went from pipe dream to reality, we would honestly be on board. I've intended to return your message about this topic for some time but have been limiting my computer usage and have not yet had time. I am happy to see it returning to the boards!

It has to have an Irish pub. After all, Eastern Christianity was preserved and then spread by Irish monks centuries before the Romans figured out that Latin was a dead language.

I take it Slavipodvizhnik your property is well guarded by rather large dogs and as result dont have to worry if the door is locked or not at night. eek

I don't know about Pennsylvania, but out here a good dog is a necessity for sheep with a very large and very crafty coyote population.

Believe it or not, our coyoye problem in PA is probably worse than yours "out West"! 4 years ago, I lost over 60 lambs, kids and crias to coyotes. Now with "Munya", "Putya", "Dunya" and "Misha", my only concern is to clean up assorted coyote parts once a week or so. As a side note, I haven't seen a JW or a Mormon in a long time! wink

I'm leaning towards a Sharplanninac when our Aussie passes on. I have some Macedonian friends who swear by them - I read an account of one Shar taking on 10 wolves at once. I am also interested in the Kuvazh.

How about Tamburizan music and dancing.

We could also try to get a Minor League Baseball team for wholesome entertainment. (Our team would refuse to play Sundays and High Holy Days. At the Ball games we could sell Nathan's Hotdogs in honor of a Brother in Christ Nathan. To learn more about Nathan's Hotdogs go to: http://www.nathansfamous.com/nathans/

On days of Fast and during Fasting periods, we could sell Peanut Butter and Bananna on a hotdog bun.

Brethren in Christ,

I have one concern about this thread on which I feel I must comment. We must be vigilant that we do not scandalize anyone.....Afterall, we don't want to be known as The Village People. wink I am part Indian, I'm sure there must be at least one ex-sailor among us....how about Contruction Workers, Are there any Construction Workers among us? I occasionally wear my cowboy hat and we are bound to have a Sheriff in our Village. biggrin
