I liked the test. It put me as more conservative culturally then economically.

I belong to an Orthodox church here in what has been called the "heartland" of the Orthodox church- the coal region of eastern Pennsylvania.

Most of the Russian, Ukrainian, and Rusyn immigrants who came to America in the 19th century worked in the coal fields of Eastern Pennsylvania. Greeks and Serbs also came. Maybe they were some of your ancestors?

You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper and debt
St Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store.

A powerful labor movement was needed in order to improve the workers' conditions. One of our church's choir directors was the local leader of the United Mine Workers union.

The Russian immigrants saw that they worked all day long, but they got maybe 10 dollars a month. The company took all the profits. And when it came to making laws for the workers, the Democrats might rule in their favor, but the Republican party stood on the side of the corporations. Our old church yearbook lists the county's democratic party council among its sponsors and has an advertisment.

Many years have passed since then, the Democrats passed some reforms, but the American system remains the same. The workers earn the corporations their money. Every year the income gap widens. 1% of the US population owns 60% of stocks and 40% of the wealth. The question today in politics is whose side are you on- the corporations or the working people. And both the political parties are still on the same side- the corporations. But the Democratic party sometimes passes reforms to make things "less bad."

I think this interpretation of politics has been passed down from the generations.

I didn't see this the first time around. Interesting. I am also on Pope John Paul II's heart. It says I'm a centrist, but half the box is in the centrist field while the other half is in the totalitarian section.

You are a Social Moderate (41% permissive) and an Economic Liberal (33% permissive). You are best described as a: Centrist

(How does a 44% get me to moderate status while only 33% makes me a liberal? I was below and behind the line in both cases.)

I'm also Pro-Life, support the Death Penalty (when actually needed,) against gun control (not an issue in a rural area, we need to hunt to eat,) against the War on Drugs, and against the War in Iraq.

No big surprise here: I am a moderate, with leanings to the left / liberalism / social libertarianism.
