is anyone aware of any publications available that print commentaries on or stories about or reflections on the daily readings for the byzantine liturgical year? I'd like to read one and/or write for one...

Hi, Mari. I remember some daily devotional booklets of other churches, such as "The Upper Room", or "Forward Day by Day", but neither of them are Byzantine or Catholic. From what I know, Byzantines find what you are looking for in many different sources. There are many Orthodox publications addressing the lives of the saints commemorated day by day, and there are multi-volume sets of biblical commentaries, such as those of St. John Chrysostom, but no daily reading devotional booklet based on the church calendar readings that I am aware of. It might be possible to cross-reference those readings to the commentaries of one saint or another. It would be a big job.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Dear Mari,

The Office of Religious Education of the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh has published just such a booklet for the Days of the Triodion, and is about to publish one for the days of the Nativity Fast and the seasons of Nativity and Theophany.
You can call Sr. Marion Dobos at 412-322-8773 and ask her about them.

In Christ,
