Actually, my issue with Serge and others was a continued ad nauseum discussion of AmChurch. An extended discussion of all things Roman Catholic really belongs on a Roman Catholic board.
Looky! And four pages long at that.

Not that there's anything wrong with threads like that but I think somebody's telling a fib.

Well, in running me off you made a nasty old man, and no friend of your church at that, very happy indeed . You gave him exactly what he wanted.

Anyway, to the others here, keep up the good work being traditional and unlatinised (which does not mean anti-Latin) and to those on the old paschalion a very happy Easter. Χριστός Ανέστη/Христосъ воскресе.

I dont understand Serges post. Back when I asked him to not to discuss AmChurch ad nauseum there were multiple threads going. The discussions were repetitive, month after month, and never seemed to end. I was receiving numerous complaints that people came here to discuss all things Byzantine and the Forum should not be primarily a vehicle for attacking AmChurch.

In the current thread he is referring to we have a discussion about a specific activity that went on earlier this month in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The thread is currently only two days old and, I think, is the only major thread about liturgical abuse within the Roman Catholic Church. Two days worth of discussion is hardly ad nauseum. Were there multiple threads running for weeks and weeks on end (as there were previously) perhaps Reader Serge would have a legitimate complaint.

So, no, there is no double standard.

Note Your pm box is full. I tried sending this there first but I could not. So...

Serge,

I was here then. I left shortly after you did, but came back upon reconsideration. But that was years ago.

I don't think it serves any purpose to come back from time to time and take pot shots at John. I think it makes you look Churlish.

Fixed the inbox.

That thread wasn't the only 'extended discussion of all things Roman Catholic'.

Want to see another one? And it's not unique.

Sorry, play again, John.

We all got played by OrthoMan.

As I neither tell people to leave the ByzCath churches nor try to force Latin practices, old or new, on them (both of which arguably are grounds for dismissal here), none of the guff I took from John or the others (that includes passive-aggressive expressions of resentment like by what name I'm referred to) was called for.

Good day.

I do own a nice pair of black powder dueling pistols that might remedy this situation...the three can draw straws to determine the order of demise...

Dueling pistols are out! The only dueling I might consider that involves shots is with Stoly! biggrin

Seriously, though, Reader Serge might be able to easily find a few more threads that discuss issues particular to the Roman Catholic Church and add them to his list. That doesnt make the discussions ad nauseum. He might consider that none of them contain the vitriol of the discussions from four years ago (which he seems to still be holding a grudge over). When such new discussions become too heated they are addressed quickly (having a number of excellent moderators helps a lot!). Also, we dont have anyone routinely using derogatory terms (like AmChurch). That alone helps keep things more charitable. Posters are making their points (on all sides of the issues) without making a fight against AmChurch the very center of their being.

Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

James,

I don't wish to duel with either of them. I thought the conflict was unnecessary 3 years ago and I still believe it is. I appreciate the contributions that both men make, but when push comes to shove this is John's board. John is not that difficult to deal with. He doesn't make it hard to comply with his requests. There are some things I don't post here and some approaches I've learned not to take. I think Serge has much to offer. I see that he posts on other places and does well. He has a very good blog. He just needs to modify a couple of things and all will be well. It is neither life threatening nor brain surgery. Just do it.

The third party reference was not directed to you...

I do understand the RC factor on a Eastern forum...it would be respectful to link the RC topic/subject to a Eastern perspective in some intelligent way...such as the example of a certain liturgical event in Los Angeles...has it or could it occur in Byzantine/Eastern practice ?

It depends on how it is worded and presented...though it would be nice to see the criticism be expressed in a charitable way...

James,

In many ways I believe that both John and Serge are my spiritual superiors. I am sad that they haven't come to a sense of appreciation but I do tend to think that Serge could lighten up just a little.

I remember reading Serge (and a number of others, including Bob T.) on Usenet back in the day. I know Serge will make a valuable contribution whenever and wherever he presents himself.

I wish the old bygones would be bygones...

Echoing my brother James...a blessed Paschal season to all.

"We all got played by OrthoMan."

What does that mean?

Whatever happened to OrthoMan?

About six or seven years ago OrthoMan was angry that I wasn't 'preaching Orthodoxy' here so he claimed me as one of theirs and I went along with it... and eventually some of the people here reacted exactly the way he wanted and drove me off. We all got played.

Anyway...

Well, well, well... [b]200 posts[/b...the Roman Rite, sprawling over 14 pages.

Double standard, mate.

Over 14 years I've enjoying learning Slavic languages as part of the rite but what exactly is the Preov-dialect Rusyn word for 'hypocrite'?
