For all you husbands and wives, you children with parents still among us, remember that today is Saint Valentines Day. Let your spouse, children, and parents know that you love and appreciate them. Oh BTW, don't forget the all important chocolate (the passion fruit of ByzCath). In IC XC, Father Anthony+

Well said Father. Excellent way to put this holiday in proper perspective. Also, have to clean out the chocolate from the house before Lent!

Dear list-members: I found a nice life of the martyr Valentine to share with everybody. The Troparion is from another source with a few modifications. Life of Saint Valentine [ sthermans.ca] Troparion to Saint Valentine(Tone 4) You became like the Apostles * and became a successor to their throne, * finding the intelligential ladder, O God-inspired one. * Therefore, you followed the Word of God in righteousness, * and shed your blood for the Faith. * O martyr among priests, Valentine, * intercede with Christ God to save our souls. I also offer this kontakion found in most prayerbooks appropriate for those who are married. We need to be reminded from time to time to renew love for each other. If you have forgotten how to tell your spouse "I Love You", do so today! This prayer is a good start! Kontakion for an Increase of Love Tone 3 - Set our hearts on fire with love for You, O Christ our Lord; * that in its flame we may love You with all our heart, with all our mind, * with all our soul and with all our strength, * and our neighbours as ourselves: * so that, keeping Your commandments, we may glorify You as the giver of all good gifts.

Dear Ray,
The prayer is definitely a needed touch for the day. Let us hope that we apply prayer today and for all days to come.

Hmmm.
Am I mistaken or does not the true Church calendar tell us that St. Valentines Day will not come for another 13 days? Is not the feast of St. Valentine on February 14/27?

:p :p :p Spot on - and I'm still not removing Choccie then either My Choccie satisfies the requirements - and like Charles, I firmly believe that it is needed at times.

The truly, true calendar appoints the Polyeleos Feast of St. Cyril, Apostles of Slavs for Feb 14/27. Slav sweethearts will have to satisfy themselves with kolachy instead of chocolates.

Dear Administrator,
Before anyone has a heart attack, you are talking about the "JU-lian" and not the "True" calendar . . .
One Valentine's Day a year is enough . . .
Whew . . .

Dear Anhelyna,
On behalf of all the red-blooded males here, have a wonderful Valentine's Day dear!
I'll raise a glass of Scotch in your honour tonight!
You are feisty - North American men, many of whom are rather insecure, really appreciate that quality in a woman . . .
Ciao, baby!

Dear Mr. Administrator: Actually Saint Valentine is commemorated on July 6th on the Byzantine Calendar. But it is interesting to note that he died on February 14th. Life of Saint Valentine [ comeandseeicons.com] It is the usual Eastern practice to remember a saint on their "birthday" into heaven. So this one puzzles me. Regardless, if we celebrate it in 13 days, we could get some real deals on chocolate! I wonder if there is a patron saint of chocolate! Women that I talk to say that chocolate is one of the food groups! Ray
