With the blessed birth of the baby Caroline Elizabeth to Father Marek and Matushka Miriam Visnovsky, it got me thinking of names. Will you please list names you've seen, heard, or know of that are generally accepted within the eastern christian world? Your suggestion just might name a future patriarch, descendent of your own, president, missionary, or other great man or woman.

For males, Anthony (personal pejudice) Joseph, Benedict, Nektarios,or Nicholas. For females. Irene, Barbara or Anastasia.
Just my 2 cents.
In IC XC, Father Anthony+
Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

I too love the name Anastasia (if it's pronounced Ahnahstahzia) but when I went to Russia, Daria was another popular girl's name. I understand she is an eastern saint? Maybe I am wrong, but it is a Greek name nontheless.

For no good reason, this reminds me of the (obviously fictitious) story of the doctor who rushed home in a state of great excitement and said to his wife: "Victor Hugo was just born!"

Fr. Serge '"Oh, yes!" continued the priest, in a voice which seemed to proceed from the depths of his being, "behold here a symbol of all. She flies, she is joyous, she is just born; she seeks the spring, the open air, liberty: oh, yes!"' -Victor Hugo, Notre Dame de Paris How about the names Andrew and Marina?

Macrina (after the Cappadocian grandmother-granddaughter saintly duo); or
Tabitha (also known as Dorcas in Acts 9); or
Margaret (after Saint Margaret of Antioch (there are many other saints Margaret)) perhaps.

Alice and Irenaeus, you've made my day! Thank you. Please keep them coming! How could anyone not delight in the thought of little baby names--the saints of our future!
