Kinda funny how they didn't even call it a divorce, but a "break up". Even their language indicates that they don't see marriage (or civil unions or whatever) the same anymore.

I dont suppose there will be such a fuss over the break up. The Domestic Violence rates among Gay and Lesbian couples is an area that due to the political games being played only now being researched.

Sex divorced from procreation leads to "break ups" and homosexual "relations" are just that. Whether they "love" each other or not. I chose non-offensive terms, I think, and I hope you get the idea without spelling it out.

I chose non-offensive terms, I think, and I hope you get the idea without spelling it out. Still, you didn't address Brian's excellent point, which is that the breakup of one gay couple says no more about the "rightness" or "wrongness" of gay marriage than does the breakup of more than half of traditional "straight" marriages. There may indeed be valid reasons against legalizing gay marriage, but this isn't one of them. Pardon my quotation marks. And yes, Theist Gal is back! )

I know many childless couples who have been together 20-30 years and counting and many gay couples who have been together the same periods of time and still counting and lack of procreation has not led to any break ups.

Only the hetero couples were, or are doing the procreation thingo. So only they will be counted in Dr. Eric's figures.

Dr. Eric, could you provide a link to a definite study proving that 5% divorce statistic, and also proving that it specifically correlates to the use of NFP, and not to other factors (for example, strong religious bonds, family ties, children/no children, etc. etc.)?

Thanks for the quick response. And I don't mean to be picking on you, Dr. Eric. However, these don't really seem to be studies of the kind I was asking about; they're described as surveys, and commissioned by people or groups already in favor of NFP. For example, 3 of them were done by the International Review of Natural Family Planning, and one by the author of a book entitled No-Pill No-Risk Birth Control. That's sort of like assuming that smoking is perfectly safe based on a joint study commissed by R.J. Reynolds and Phillip Morris.

It's also like assuming vioxx is safe to take because Merc performed the RCTs on it.

Originally posted by Dr. Eric: It's also like assuming vioxx is safe to take because Merc performed the RCTs on it. I'm glad to see you agree with me. Just FYI, here is what Wikipedia says about the correlation between NFP and divorce rates (at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_family_planning#Divorce_rate_correlation): Divorce rate correlation
Proponents of NFP say it increases marital satisfaction and helps lower divorce rates. Anecdotal evidence and small studies are put forth in support of this view.[20]
One study involving 505 women using NFP found a correlation between lower divorce rates and the use of NFP.[21]
To date, no studies exploring a cause and effect relationship between the use of NFP and lowered divorce rates have been carried out. So the results don't seem to be as clearcut. The reason I seem to be hammering on this is not to discredit you, Dr. Eric, or to discredit NFP. Just to point out that the results aren't in yet. That doesn't mean NFP isn't a good thing to do - just that we don't really know for sure about the divorce rate correlation.
