Dear JoeS,

I'm not going out, but I am getting dressed up as a monk to meet the kids at the door.

I'll have a large Rosary "of the dead" that is outfitted with a large skull, courtesy of Tammy Kelly!

I was walking the dog the other night and came across a hanging skeleton on someone's tree - now THAT was scary!

We now have a huge spider's web near our front door with a large spider on it (he collects the flies that come to the lights).

I've named the spider "Felix" after the patron saint of spiders, Pope St Felix I!

Hmmm, that's a good question. We usually to to some RC friends All Saints party and everyone dresses up as some saint, myself and my kids usually picking some obscure Eastern saints to spice things up. I guess I had better decide soon. I was leaning towards St. Spyridon or Nicodemus of the Pecherska Lavra and through flour all over myself. smile

Seeing all the Matrix costumes, I've been tempted to throw on my cassock and fit right in. biggrin

Today, I went around as an under cover cop. I was wearing pants, a shirt... well, my normal clothes... but that was just so I blended in with the crowd and didn't blow my cover.

This year I am staying home to give candy to the trick-or-treaters. I have tried dressing up to do that, but it scares the little ones too much. So no costumes. I did think of putting skulls on the organ at the masses for which I play next Sunday. The choir director would probably have a seizure - hmmm, might just be a good reason for doing it. biggrin

Dave, I was going to ask Nikita Borisov sometime if he modified a St. Petersburg-style podriasnik for that movie...it looks a lot like the one he made me. smile

Fri night: Son's Cub Scout Halloween Party
Sat Night: Trick or Treating. Logan is going as a skeleton, Landan is going as Spider-man, Elias is going as a lion, and I will done my Jedi robe and get out my lightsaber and be Obi Wan Kenobi (original Trilogy version) as usual, fulfilling child hood fantasies of being a Jedi Knight. Yes I am a Star Wars fan of geek level.
Sun Night: Simpson's Tree House of Horror, Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein, and Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Can't beat the classics.

Hi Everyone!

Won't be giving out the TREATS or playing any TRICKS this year. I'm doing an ikon-writing demo on Sunday at St.John the Baptist in Uniontown. The community there had their 'TRICK OR TREATING" last night for the kiddies.

My Mom's Latin Rite parish here is having an ALL HALLOW'S EVE party tomorrow after their 10:00 Mass. The want everyone to come as their favorite Saint. I thought going as ST.John the Baptist with a head on a silver platter might be nice.... biggrin

If anyone is interested, there is a radio station from Washington,DC WAMU 88.5 FM that will have a wonderful Halloween program. Every Sunday evening from 7-11pm, they play the Old time radio programs 1930's- 1950's. They will be featuring an all HALLOWEEN PROGRAM including the original Orson Welles WAR OF THE WORLD'S broadcast. You can listen to the simulcast on-line.

I'll go look for the link and try to post it....

have fun everyone....

OK - now to really shock you

I'm not doing anything and there will be no kids at the door either frown It's a very quiet area now - very few kids and parents don't let kids out on their own after dark. Dunno about anywhere else in Scotland - but it does seem to have died out here .

There was a Parish Social last night - but I didn't go - well there was a noisy Rock band going to be there - not my cup of tea at all frown

PS Mark -- I like it - St John the Baptist - well - that's different biggrin

I recall walking in downtown Glasgow after 10:00 and people of all ages were still walking around as well. Has Glasgow got less safe in the last 25 years?

Yes and No - it's like every big city now - the night life is there if you want the various types of Music clubs , or the many bars and eateries but yes we do have our drug problems not to mention the down and outs [ and they are fed every night by various charities ] but sadly the latest craze is the gun culture - there are increasing numbers of shootings . In the City centre there is new very expensive housing which in some respects is helping to regeneerate the Centre - but families with children move out - and believe it or not the Gorbals has gone very yuppy - with very expensive private housing - though it's blocks of flats rather than houses frown
