Peace, I was notified today by Mr. Taras Hrynchyshyn, Research Director of RISU, that Father Volodymyr Viytyshyn was consecrated Coadjutor Bishop of the Eparchy of Kolomyia-Chernivtsi on July 15, 2003 in Kolomyia by His Beatitude Lubomyr Husar, with Bishop Pavlo Vasylyk, Eparch of Kolomyia-Chernivtsi and Bishop Sofron Stefan Mudry, OSBM, Eparch of Ivano-Frankivsk, as co-consecrators. He advised that information on the consecration, in Ukrainian, can be found at the following urls: http://www.risu.org.ua/article.php?sid=946&l=ua http://www.ugcc.org.ua/ukr/press- releases/article;498/ Mr. Matthew Matuszak, RISU Director, advised that the English-language text of the RISU article will probably be posted by tomorrow. May God bless this new bishop! Charles

Dear Lauro, When I see His Beatitude next week, I'm going to make it a point to speak to him about you and the Brazilian situation . . . Alex

Dear Alex, That would be great and I would be very grateful. Our Kyr Efrem will be retiring at the end of the year. That means that another bishop should be popping up pretty soon. Please pray together with me on this issue, it is of course of great importance. Lauro

Lauro, it might be later rather than sooner. It took almost two years to fill Chicago after Bishop Michael was transferred to Saskatoon.

Dear Diak, You are right. It's better to wait and hope that they make the right choice instead of rushing into things.I think that they should have a bishop to fill in the gap when something like this happens though. How about Kyr Lonchena? Lauro

Very interesting. My mother-in-law was born in Kolomyia. My mother was born in Snyatyn, not too far removed from both Kolomyia and Chernivtsi. My mother (Memory eternal!) often spoke of her childhood trips from Snyatyn into Chernivtsi, which was considered the largest city in the area. Also she spoke of crossing the border into Romania, something, as a child, she could easily do with her widowed mother in those days.
When my mother and grandmother arrived in the USA under the sponsorship of my Great-Uncles Anthony and Basil, my mother believed that she was Eastern Orthodox ("pravoslavny" was always used in church in Snyatyn). My grandmother corrected her and told her she was "grecko-katolicki" (Greek Catholic).
To make a long story short, my mother corrected her mother's correction by being received into the Orthodox Church at age 65! My wife and children preceded my mother into Orthodoxy by some ten years!
