I would recommend the following two iconographer's manuals:
An Icon Painters Notebook: The Bolshakoy Edition. An Anthology of
Source Materials. Trans. and Ed. Gregory Melnick. Torrance, CA: Oakwood Publications: 1999.

The Painters Manual of Dionysius of Fourna. London: Sagittaurius Press, 1978.

The best available book on the theology of canonical Orthodox iconography is:
Leonid Ouspensky, & Vladimir Lossky. The Meaning of Icons. Rev. Ed. Crestwood, NY: St. Vladimirs Seminary Press, 1982.

Sadly, even Eastern Catholic priests have been duped by this group - an article from this very site:

Light of the East" 15 Part Series to be Featured in EWTN\'s Fall Line-Up

The "Light of the East" 15 part series is slated for the new Fall line up of programs on EWTN. This is the first ever series on Eastern Catholic Churches on EWTN.

Fr. Michael J. Sopoliga proposed the series to EWTN Executive Producer Doug Keck months ago while Sopoliga was taping his appearances on The Abundant Life with Johnnette Benkovic last year.

Keck supported Fr. Sopoliga's ideas about the program, and gave the go ahead for taping the week of June 18, 2001. Producer for the series, Andrea Byrnes has already been thinking about Part II of the series, with taping next spring. Joining Fr. Sopoliga, of SS Cyril & Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church, in Fort Pierce, FL was Fr. Joseph Bertha, of St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church, Buffalo, NY. The series presents all of the Eastern Catholic Churches, with musical and visual highlights of each church. Another highlight, will be the reenactment of the Proskomedia, which is so seldom seen by the people. Many vestments, and church furnishings will be displayed, thanks to Holoviak.com church supplies. The set, which was created by Fr. Sopoliga, is a 9 feet high tryptich of the Deisis, donated to the series by Monasteryicons.com, is flanked by traditional banners, and as some remarked: "The set looks 'heavenly'. One of the most beautiful seen on EWTNyet!" The half hour programs will begin to air in September. Watch for promos on EWTN regarding the times and dates.

Fr. Sopoliga is assisting in the possible production of "Major Feast Day" televised Liturgies on a regular basis for EWTN, as well as other projects. Fr. Michael can be emailed at mjs1129@aol.com, Fr. Joseph at: fathericon@yahoo.com.
