It would be a great idea if you post some pictures of eastern churches nearby...

There are occasional threads that have Eastern Churches though this may be the first one in my memory of Churches in Lebanon. I thank you for this.

This was very generous of you, Charbel. I truly enjoyed them...the churches and the landscape are quite beautiful.

God bless!

Charbel,

Do you have any pictures of Eastern Catholic or Orthodox Churches? These are lovely Latin Catholic Churches but I was wondering if you have any Eastern Catholic Church pictures.

hey carson daniel lauffer,
All those churches are eastern catholic ( Maronite). You may notice that the first church looks latin, but the rest r very old. For example, the second church is about 800 years old. Anyway, i will try to find some pics of greek orthodox churches in lebanon.

Charbel,

I guess I'm not used to all the statuary and pews and the lack of icons and iconostasis. For that matter I've never seen a Maronite Church before, though I frequestly worship in a Melkite Church. Thanks again for the lovely pictures. We have several Eastern Churches from the States but I gather you are looking for pictures of Eastern Churches in the Middle East or Eastern Europe.

Well, the lebanese especially the maronite church has been affected by french colonization. Some people started following french traditions instead of lebanese traditions. Icons r still used in some maronite churches, but i don't know why they r not stressing on using icons anymore. Anyway, most lebanese seek unity so they don't care if the church is latin or not. Some maronites would have communion in orthodox churches and many orthodox would also have communion in maronite churches. I haven't found this anywhere yet.

If East/West unity exists anywhere in the hearts of man it is in Lebanon!

One of the most beautiful, Holy Spirit filled and inspired words of a homily I EVER read about unity was written by the Patriarch of Antioch.

Too bad the new Antiochian converts from Protestantism in the U.S. are destroying that beautiful momentum. They bring their anti-Catholic baggage to a tradition of love and unity from the old world. mad

Alice, something we have always agreed on is our view of ecumenism. I have met such converts before and they scare me smile I am always proud of you as my Orthodox sister in Christ in your love and concern for the unity of Catholic and Orthodox Churches and that always trumps disagreements over politics in my book!

Charbel,

Those pictures are incredibly beautiful. The St. Paul Melkite Cathedral is breathtaking. Axios to Patriarch Gregorios.
