By the way, I hope no one thinks that by posting this info, I am somehow "gloating." Before this morning, I knew nothing of this information. Situations like this are always difficult. You might say it is the "product" of disunity, because you will always have those who will go back or forth between jurisdictions and even faiths. Although as an OCA priest, I rejoice with the monks of Holy Cross, I also understand that this is a sensitive issue for those who are of the Byzantine Catholic faith, and I do not want to appear insensitive to your feelings on this subject.

If I posted this information inappropriately, my sincerest apologies. I meant no harm by it. I was as surprised as all of you may be.

Thank you, Fr. Thomas, for posting this information!

I suppose I should have been a little more specific when I initially made my post, though, since I first heard about this from attending the said Diocesan Assembly in Bethlehem as my parish's lay delegate. wink

Well, then, it seems to me that you heard it "from the horse's mouth" and your information was quite reliable indeed.

Lets get a few things straight:

Are we talking about the MONASTIC community only or both the Academy and Monastic community? The Academy is a "Catholic" parochial school, but is open to people of all faiths.

Then there was that murder case back in 2001 when it was a part of the Eparchy of Passaic ...

Since 2001, the Academy became, "... an independent self-governing school" and "... is not under the control of any church hierarchy." (cf. http://www.fcis.org/Schools/holy_cross.htm)

Did this monastic community become independent too since 2001?

The founder of Holy Cross Academy, Fr. Abbot Gregory Wendt, once founded The Monastery of the Three Holy Hierarchs in Lake Worth, which was, "... abruptly closed by church officials, ..." (per Miami Herald, Apr. 25, 2001) Then Holy Cross Academy was founded in 1985 only to go independent from the same eparchy after 2001. Now, the monastic community is transferring to the OCA. This community tends to move about every so many years.

Bless me a sinner, Father Thomas!

My hat is also off to you for your great sensitivity that you always demonstrate on this and so many other matters - and always!

I wish a number of our Latin posters here would emulate you in your sensitivity - with respect to Orthodoxy.

For the record, our Latin posters have done more in the last few weeks to push me more toward Orthodoxy, than your teaching ever has . . . wink

Kissing your right hand, I again implore your blessing,

Your servant,

Alex

According to the ByzCath website (which is not official, as I understand) they are listed under the directory of monasteries at https://www.byzcath.org/lists/parlist.htm .

I could not find anything on the Eparchy of Passaic's "official" website at http://dreamwater.org/edu/passaic/ .

It's getting hard these days to determine the existence of Byzantine Catholic monastic communities ...

Fr. Thomas,

Your concern for the emotions and feelings of Byzantine Catholics when dealing with such a touchy subject is truly a Christian example to us all. Thanks and God bless.

Dear Teen Logo,

I knew that my phrase, "You Rock," would elicit a response from you . . .

And that's cool . . .

I guess we're discussing the same thing.

I remember visiting the Monastery of the Three Holy Hierarchs after it had already folded and became a parish. Goats used to eat the altar linens.
