Hi,

Our cantor has an ancient (and falling apart) hand sized book that has all the readings for each day's Epistle and Gospel. It's a bit old, as it has Corpus Christi listed for next week, but anyway, I'm trying to find an updated version, if one exists, to get him for his birthday.

Anyone know where I can find such a handy book?

Those published by Pittsburgh are long out of print. You might try contacting Fr. Jack Custer at the Seminary. He often has extra out-of-print liturgical books donated to the library he is willing to part with for a donation to the Seminary.

Another source is:
"Hear Me O Lord" A Sunday and Festal Missal it is published by Basilian Fathers Publications in Michigan. The NAB is used for the Scripture Readings. It was $40. Holy Trinity Monastery has it, the Bookstore Phone is 724-287-4461

Glory to Jesus Christ!

When using lectionaries from another jurisdiction, please be aware that their usage is likely to be different from Byzantine Catholic usage.

For example: not only will Ukrainian Catholic books give feast days not observed in the Byzantine Catholic Church, but they also make no reference to the "Lukan Jump" which happens after the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in September because the Ukrainian Catholic Church no longer observes this practice.

The Lucan Jump does not affect the epistle lectionary. Mr. Thompson is correct about the readings for the other feasts. Its always best to reference either the Typicon or the wall calendar when preparing the reading(s).

Oh, how wonderful it would be to have an Apostol based upon the RSV. Or even better, the new ESV. Somday.

I overheard my parish giftshop volunteers telling our deacon that Holy Trinity Monastery's bookstore is closing. I certainly hope they were wrong!

The Gospel and Epistle Books list readings after Pentecost as the #th Sunday after Pentecost. However, the Typicon directs we start reading the Gospel of Luke after the Feast of the Holy Cross, Sept 14. So while the Epistle readings are unaffected, we start reading the Gospel of Luke, the 18th Sunday after Pentecost, the Sunday after the Sunday after the Feast of the Holy Cross. This year for example that Sunday is the 16th Sunday after Pentecost but we actually read the Gospel of the 18th Sunday on that day. and this contues until we come to the time of the Triodion.

Some Churches ignore this direction nad just read the numbered Sundays in sequence, as the Ukrainians do. The Metropolia used to do this and many parishes still do.
