Slava Isusu Christu! I came across this amazing audio file about a event that took place during a revival meeting in the arctic amongst the Inuit people. In the file you will hear a woman cry out and then a wind will be heard filling the Church (Anglican) and people experiencing the power of God. It is amazing! As a Byzantine Catholic I don't usually get into such things but I will tell you it is hard to refute. What a joy that we have the fullness of the Spirit in the Sacred Mysteries. But the Holy Spirit can also hear the cry of those who do not know the True Faith. Just listen... It's at the top of this page: http://www.fireonthealtar.com/video/index.html Tell me what you think; is this a move of God or what? Could this happen to us if we really wanted God to come and visit us supernaturally? In Christ and the Theotokos, Robert

Be careful with this stuff.
The Devil can parody God's power with paranormal occurances like this one.

Dear LT:
Could not someone say the same thing about Fatima, Lourdes, etc. etc. etc? Just a thought.
Yours,
hal

Of course, Hal.
That's why the Church is the ultimate arbiter of such things.

Aha! So only Catholic paranormal events are legitimate. I see. Sorry, my mistake.

Certainly the Holy Spirit works whenever and however He will, not just in Catholic events. But the Church's view of extraordinary manifestations is to be cautious and look, over the long term, for the good fruits. The danger is in actively looking for these type of manifestations, for that is when the evil one lurks and tries to deceive. I'm sure we have all heard of occasions where some evangelist gets really proud of his "spiritual gifts or miracles". Those are the situations that make me tremble. The gifts of God bring humility, not the nasty sin of PRIDE. The miraculous events that have taken place at Lourdes and the like, and have been approved by the Church, have been subjected to great investigation for many years. That doesn't mean that in other instances God is not at work. He certainly must be very busy in times as difficult as ours. But actively seeking miraculous interventions is courting deception.

1 St John 4:1 tells us "Beloved do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone forth into the world"
I think the implication is clear, an evil spirit will only attempt to lead us away from God. That's what we must watch vigilantly for and avoid.

Slava Isusu Christu!
Of course there is always dangers, but this event transformed 80% of the village and they burned, in a big bonfire, all their stolen goods, pornography, drugs et al. Only the Spirit would move people to do that. I think it would be nice for the Holy Spirit to come into one of our parishes and shake it up a bit like He did the Inuit people:)
In Christ,
Robert
