Dear-in-Christ Marc,

That is a very interesting factoid! I would love to see those numbers. Can you cite a reference for that?

[Yes, the mentality's silly - Moscow should focus on the fact that there are more churchgoing Russian Protestants than Russian Orthodox- but nevertheless it's real. Rome wants good, smooth and nonpolemical relations with Moscow, and the slightest complaint is definitely heard the Vatican.]

Do you have statistical facts to support this statement? If so, I would like to see them.

Sorry everyone, I completely forgot that I had posted here. frown

The supposition was posted in this thread on this board.

The statement comes from Nikolai Mitrokhin of the the Institute of the Study of Religion in the Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic Countries, and is sourced by an article in the National Catholic Reporter.

Two points:

1. I owe Orthoman and all other Orthodox who took offense an apology for not checking things and stating that a guy's supposition was a fact.

2. the paper is known around here as the "National Catholic Distorter" for a reason. Nevertheless, I've found (at least what I've seen of) Joh Allen's writings to be objective and overall quite good, and so I'm comfortable citing an article of his.
