I signed the DNR, with the consent and agreement of my family. When I signed it, we went over it in great detail so that it was understood exactly what this meant. All normative means of sustaining life, such as food and water, antibiotics, and other such care such as maintaining the ventilator she is on will be continued. If my wife has a "code", they will adminster drugs to try to restart the heart, but will not take "heroic" measures such as CPR, shocking the heart, or other extreme measures.

The DNR was very clear about this and I am assured that normal care will be take to maintain her life and the best comfort she can have at this time.

Your prayers for her soul are appreciated. She has not been in any form of church for over 20 years. May the Lord meet with her and have mercy upon her in this condition.

Brother Ed

Prayers, Brother Ed, for you, your wife and family during this difficult time. It sounds like you have made a difficult, but informed decision regarding the DNR order.

You may have already considered this, but have you thought about having a priest come to administer the annointing of the sick? I know you said it has been some time since she has darkened the door of a church, but perhaps God in His mercy allowed her to enter into a completly childlike position of dependence in order to manifest His mercy to her.

It is just a thought.

God bless,

Gordon

Dear Brother Ed,

You are a blessing in your wife's life. Keep praying for her with faith that your prayers are being heard and that Our Merciful God will grant whatever you ask of Him with a pure heart.

I also second the suggestion for the sacrament of Anointing.

We are praying for you and with you.

Shalom,
Memo
