Here is something about the contributions of an Eastern Orthodox cleric on electricity back in the 18th century:

The first Romanian recorded in America (1748) was Samuil Damian, a Romanian Orthodox priest from Transylvania. He traveled in Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia and corresponded with Benjamin Franklin regarding electricity before settling in Charleston, S.C. (http://roboam.com/romaniusa.htm).

Romanians have a recorded presence of over 250 years on American soil. In the middle of the year 1748, a Transylvanian priest named Samuel Damian immigrated to America for scientific reasons. Damian conducted various experiments with electricity and even caught the attention of Benjamin Franklin (they met and had a conversation in Latin). (web address not available).

I never heard about Samuel Damian until recently. Does anyone know what Samuel and Benjamin Franklin discussed? Did Samuel leave behind any research documents?
