Dear Pani Rose: Isn't it wonderful? I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes more than 2 years ago and have been substituting the recommended synthetic sweetener with honey in any given situation ever since, upon the advice of my family physician: my wife (and my honey )! Extreme vacillation in my blood sugar is surprisingly being held at bay, without me taking the prescribed daily medications and/or insulin injection! Of course, I also diet conscientiously and do "walks" around the house or the block, if the weather permits. Amado

I have found that locally produced honey does a fairly good job of controlling my allergies. The stuff on the supermarket shelf doesn't seem to be as effective. The local honey supposedly contains some of the pollen allergens that cause allergic reactions. Apparently, it works similarly to taking allergy shots over a period of time.

Dear ByzanTN,
How do you use the honey to control your allergies? Do you take a certain amount at set times?
I'm curious because my allergies have been killing me this summer. I would be interested in trying the honey because with my allergies I get that dry hacky cough that none of the allergy medicines do anything about.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Terry

It took about 2 months before I saw a noticeable difference, but the good thing is that I am not on prescription allergy medicines anymore. The honey is not a cure-all, it just helps. East Tennessee is the allergy capital of the world. We have high rainfall and high humidity, and pollen counts are usually pretty high. Add to that mold and mildew, and you will understand what I mean. I always said that if they ever do a musical based on my life, they will call it "The Sound of Mucous"

Amadeus- Whaaaat?!?!? Could you give me more details re the effects of honey on your blood glucose levels? This sounds interesting and do-able for me. Are you talking raw honey or store brands? Does your wife have any thoughts on cinnamon? Thanks! Marya
