Pyrohy, no I have not been there. I went to school in Washington for two years and for the most part I went to St. Matthew's Cathedral. That cathedral is actually worth a visit, they some beautiful byzantine style mosaics.

A few other buildings that I think are worth seeing are St. Patrick's near the capitol and the old cathedral in Baltimore if it's open.

The one place I would not go back to is the National Shrine in Washington. It's my own opinion, but that building to me is desperately ugly.

Make sure you visit St Nicholas Orthodox Church, just off Wisconsin Ave, around the corner from the Episcopal National Cathedral.
It is splendid.

"the old cathedral in Baltimore if it's open"

The Basilica of the Annunciation in Baltimore is being renovated and restored to it's original beauty.

It is closed until at least November 2006...

hope this helps...

Ray,

There is also a large Ethiopian/Eritrean Ge'ez Catholic community in Washington D.C.
The parish is Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Kidane-Mehret) Catholic Church.
Unfortunately, their website has been offline for quite some time.
