Dear Joe,

God bless you for bringing this forward!

This is an Eastern Catholic Benedictine monastery and they are positively wonderful!

They work very hard at creating these preserves which are made from the finest products and, when it comes to taste, are out of this world!

They deserve all our support, even from our Latin Church brothers and sisters since they are Benedictines . . . and, oh yes, Catholics too!!

God bless you,once again!

Alex

Glory to Jesus Christ!

I am considering taking a retreat at their Skete, has anyone here done this or known anyone who has? I'd love to hear their experiences before I should go. God Bless!

-Nik!

Dear YourCatholic

I would recommend a retreat with this group!

They are very much like the Trappists of Oka, working with their hands etc.

They are unique in North America in that they are Byzantine-Ukrainian, but follow the Benedictine Rule.

Like their marmalades, they offer a unique spiritual blend that is to everyone's taste!!

I am Ukrainian Catholic. I was there for a Retreat.

I would not recomend this place.

They do NOT have a "vow of Poverty". They are two ex Roman Catholics who abuse Our Church Traditions.

John,

Actually, there are several more at the monastery. One of them is one of our parishioners.

Here is a picture of their un-traditional temple and complex (just kidding):

Why do you say they abuse Eastern Church traditions? Please cite some examples if you're going to make such a generalized allegation. Thank you.

In Christ,
Anthony

They learned the Byzantine monastic life through Abbot Boniface (Luyxx) at HTM in California and are still "officially" a skete of HTM. Looks like they are doing OK to me, church looks pretty darn Ukie.

Abbot Nicholas is very interesting, an African-American convert, now Ukrainian Catholic abbot. This past weekend I believe was the consecration of the monastery church. I think they have five or six monks there now.
