Pope John Paul II's staff, or crosier, is topped with a bowed crucifix and a gaunt yet unwavering Christ figure the work of Santa Fe sculptor Gib Singleton. --Albuquerque Journal

I just learned of this Pope-New Mexico connection. I have drawn inspiration from the Holy Father's crosier from the beginninig of his pontificate. The crosier helps me contemplate on the agony of Christ's crucifixion.

Paul:

Some local broadcasts here indicate that one of the most sought after religious items is the miniature reproduction of the Pope's crosier, worn as a pendant!

I hope to get one someday!

I got one maybe 10 years ago, but I attached it to the zipper to the case for my Liturgy of the Hours... it's gotten pretty beaten up over the years, but still holding on. I think I got it in Reading PA or Philly... can't remember which one, at a Catholic shop

The rosaries that are given out by the Vatican and blessed by the Holy Father have that crucifix attached.

You can also get them from The Rosary Shop. www.rosaryshop.com [rosaryshop.com] . they call it "papal crucifix" on their website, I think.

Wasn't it first used by John Paul I? JP II liked it as well and used it for his Papal crozier.

I thought it was Paul VI's crosier, and he used it to close the council.

You're right, I just saw a show about previous Popes and I noticed Paul VI used it.
