Accept those that you mention are occultic, and burning palm branches in time of storms is an old Catholic custom.

Why do you think after Second Vatican Council ...such practices are no longer recognize as Catholic.
Sure the CHARMED are occultic and fiction... but do you think is the same thing?

It's entirely irrelevant to me what was said about such practices at V2. I knew about the burning of the palms when I was very little, and I know of other people who have told me of similar stories handed down in their families. As I said near the beginning of the thread way back in 2003, I know the custom existed among the Irish and Germans, and possibly others. If some bishops happen to think it's superstitious, that's there problem, not mine.

well.....if you feel good about it... thats good then. We all have our own supertitious and many of them is religious related....but now that the Church no longer sanction such practices,,, eventually it will go away.
The Second Vatican 2 even no longer recognize legend saints and practices.
But, i agree..... every ethnic has its own customs.

I doubt it's even popular now, but it has survived simply because some people are convinced that it works.

Dear Lawrence,
When I'm travelling, I (and members of my family), place a little Icon into each suitcase. It works! They have never gotten lost.
Now this practice started when my daughter was in high school. She lost her wallet, twice mind you, and it was returned with the money. Something unheard of at the time. In it she had an icon of Christ.
So, if one shows their faith, by placing an object they consider divine, or does something for special protection, then who's to say it should not be so?

Dear Pani Rose,
Thank you for the following prayer. It is beautiful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Jesus Christ a King of Glory has come in peace. God became Man, and the Word was made flesh. Christ was born of a Virgin. Christ suffered. Christ was crucified. Christ died. Christ rose from the dead. Christ ascended into Heaven. Christ conquers. Christ reigns. Christ orders. May Christ protect us from all storms and lightning. Christ went through their midst in peace, and the Word was made flesh. Christ is with us with Mary. Flee you enemy spirits because the Lion of the Generation of Juda, the Root David, has won. Holy God! Holy Powerful God! Holy Immortal God! Have mercy on us. Amen!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------
