My wife said she saw Ms. Stewart teaching how to make hot cross buns for Pascha. That means she is probably Catholic.

Dear Marshall Taylor,
My local Jewish bakery makes Hot Cross Buns - but without the crosses . . .
Kind of reminds me of the Roman soldier who carried the book of psalms with him, but never read it.
But, one day, he began to read it.
He shed many tears and felt he couldn't stop reading it.
He was ordered to get back into ranks with his other colleagues, but he couldn't stop reading the Psalms.
He was still reading them when he was scourged to death on the spot.
St Camerinus, Feast day: August 23rd.

Dear KL,
In the movie about her, she is portrayed coming into a K-Mart store to meet the execs with whom she'd be working.
She then looks around and says, "What is all this crap?"
"Oh, those are the products you will be selling for us, Martha!"
"Ah, I don't THINK so! No, no, no, no . . ."
But if it's a crime to be a perfectionist, then people like my wife would be in serious trouble too . . .

Dear Alex:
What you say supports my point above. Martha rubbed certain people the wrong way but was loved by certain others. Because she is not universally loved, she is getting the book thrown at her in an attempt to score politial points.
Yours,
kl

What's the matter - you mean you never watch Martha Stewart on TV? LOL, I'm a 16 year old guy, if that answers your question. (No, I never watch it). How are your cooking and gardening skills? Hm, well I've watered the plants before. I helped my mother plant daffodils in our front yard at our old house when I was about five or so. I can make Easy Mac, cinnamon roles, and DiGiorno pizza...oh, and I can make pancakes (not from scratch of course). That's about it. Pathetic, eh? Logos Teen

Dear Alex: But if it's a crime to be a perfectionist, then people like my wife would be in serious trouble too . . . . . .along with Martha, or with you!? (How are you feeling today? I see that you are having a ball with Snoop and DavidB, forgetting for the moment our "enthnocentricities" and subjugating, or shall we say "Ukrainizing" Ethiopians!) AmdG

Dear Amado,
Actually, I was angry at myself for the way I didn't properly handle my conversation with the Administrator.
And after I'd promised myself I'd never become emotional about things again.
It's an issue that would result in severe social discomfort for me if I were to raise it in most religious circles that I walk in up here!
In any event, it's something that definitely is not on the immediate agenda or horizon of our Ukie community and parishes for a number of reasons.
I get into enough trouble up here while trying to be good, let alone if I wanted to walk into what I know is a minefield . . .
Anyway, thank you for asking!
And happy Filipino Independence Day today. We had a flag-raising ceremony at the Legislature.
Mabuhay Ang Filipinas!

William Safire has an interesting editorial on the CNN website today about Martha.
I've never actually seen her show, because we don't have cable. Being a celebrity though is an invitation to get shot at.
As for the USA Patriot Act, well, let's just say that this Administration has managed in a very short time to undo many, many hard-won civil rights, while disassembling the government, despoiling the environment and making sure that the poor we will always have with us - and unless we are already rich, they may BE us. The Patriot Act is just one of many outrages.
Wait a second while I pull on my asbestos underwear.

Dear Mother Sharon, Shlom haMashiach! Excellent points and thank you for that reference! Good luck when you recite the Rule of St Seraphim! Which I know you will . . . Many Russian Orthodox nuns recite it daily, you know . . . Alex

If you go to the martha talks web site there is a section called "setting the record straight" it's interesting. Martha Steward and Sam Waskal were not the only one's trading their stock that day. I believe that there is still ethnic bias in this country. You can still go after people of Eastern European descent with out being accused of racism.

Dear Baba:
I can just see it now:
Martha's lawyers petition the Supreme Court of the United States for certiorari based upon an assertion that there is systematic discrimination against wealthy women of Polish ancestry in the prosecution of crimes.

Dear Baba: Just to facilitate your understanding legalese, I think Krylos Leader meant that Martha's lawyers might appeal to, and then petition, the U.S. Supreme Court for a writ of certiorari (i.e., if they lose the case in the lower courts), which often happens in cases involving "high profile" litigants. I pray that we take the time to examine exactly what is being done to us, as well as for us, by acts like the Patriot Act and other activities by those charged with protecting our civil liberties. I agree with your estimation.
I'll keep you covered with fire retardent if you'll keep up the good work!
