Friends,
I was just listening to Dr James Dobson's Focus on the Family radio program. Dr Dobson is a well known Evangelical Christian psychologist.
He was saying good things about John Paul II, like the Popes's upholding the dignity of every person and the "gospel of life."
Dr Dobson even has a corresondent in Rome for the Popes's funeral.
This is good news for Christian unity.

I used to be a regular listener, catching "Focus on the Family" during a commute. However, on one program, it was observed that Catholics were not really Christians. I wrote a letter of complaint to "Focus", but it was never answered.

This is such an awesome moment in the history of Christianity and in history in general. I have checked various websites of different denominations. The mainline ones and others are being so respectful and are recognizing the goodness of the Holy Father in his life and in his death as well as the contributions he has made to all. I am also happy to hear of Dr. Dobson's response. In my memory Pope John Paul II will live as a loving Father who cared for his children. He loved them and forgave them and even admonished them when they did not obey or listen. A lesson from which we parents can all learn. And, historically, I think he is and will be considered along with Martin Luther King and Mother Theresa as one of the great religious leaders of our time - perhaps in time - also a canonized saint. We are blessed, indeed, to have lived during his time as Pope and to have been left with such a legacy. In Christ and the Theotokos, Mary Jo

Nick Evangelical Christians hold many varying opinions about us. We can see that the witness of Christ by Pope John Paul II has positively influenced many hearts and minds about our status. This is a good step. Dr. Dobson himself has made progress in this area. Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life and other Catholics are now regular guests and this also has done much to positively change hearts and minds. I have also seen Dr. Dobson on several television programs this past week telling how impressed he has been with Pope John Paul IIs rock solid stand for Jesus Christ and his unchanging moral clarity. This is progress. But even if Evangelical Christians were not developing a more accurate understanding of who we are I would be at least giving them moral support. They are working with us in the fight for a culture of life. That is worth supporting no matter what they think about us.

I don't know all of Dr. Dobson's beliefs about the Catholic Church. I do know that he gave a presentation in Rome to the Pontifical Council on the Family.
