Folks,

I currently contract in Salem, Ohio (Columbiana County) just SW of Youngstown.

This morning I passed by a cross street and noticed a boarded up church with the following name above the entrance:

ST. JOHN EVANGELIST ROMANIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

Does anyone know where I can find info on this church? its history? where the current Romanian Orthodox worship?

There is a parish in Canton, St George [not to be confused with St George Romanian Catholic Cathedral, a few blocks away]. I don't know it there is one any closer.

The OCA also has parishes of St. John the Baptist in Campbell and Warren.

Thanks.

I just found out that the late mother of the president of the company I contract with was a member of the Romanian O. parish community in Salem, Ohio.

One of the old-timers stated that St. John's was closed about fifteen years ago. It was used as a day-care center for a few years then that closed. Now, it sits there weathering away.

Occasionally, I pass through Alliance, Ohio. Might have to take a peek at the Romanian church.

Joe
