Since coming aboard two years ago I have only used the button a few times and then only when I saw a definite lack of charity or something very offensive always with an explanation as to why I was sending the alert. Usually I thought the report post was to sort of alert a moderator in case they didn't see something going awry, since, obviously they can't be there all the time.

You are absolutely correct, and I have always appreciated your input. Infact, all of the moderators, including me, also work outside the home, so having another set of eyes and ears 'out there' helps alot! smile

Hmmmmmm???? confused
I'm sorry you are confused. The reminder to use the "report post" came after a number of posters did attempt to handle the situation themselves. When that did not work, some posters requested the thread to be closed. This was requested within the thread itself. Since I do not personally view every post, my reminder to use the "report post" function came as a result of those requests to close that were made within the thread itself.

Functioning as a moderator is not an exact science. I have not observed that the moderators act heavy-handedly. Speaking for myself, I probably could have provided an explanation in some deleted or closed threads, but I chose not to do that. IMO, the offense was obvious.

If someone has a concern about why his or her own post was deleted by this moderator and no explanation was given, I can be reached via PM.

The subject thread Steve identifies in the Town Hall section as being closed within the last 60 days was actually closed by the Administrator. The last subject thread I closed was in August.

Let us begin the Fast with joy!

Dear Friends,

I once reported a post to the Administrator directly . . . and then realized that I was one who had written the post that was now offending me . . . wink

It's really amazing what the Administrator has to put up with here!

That is TOO funny Alex! I really, really needed just that type of chuckle this morning. Thank you and God bless you!

Steve, could you be referring to the thread, "How to get into the choir...." in Kliros, when you said a thread was deleted? There is currently only the original post of that thread on Kliros. I recall there being quite a few subsequent posts that followed, ALL of which are no longer there. Hmmm.

Jim,

The thread I was referring to no longer exists but in the memory of those who read it or posted to it.

A good deal of my frustration regarding this subject (of the dissappearing threads) is that the "offending" thread just dissappeared, (thus leaving no evidence, save what might have been drafted on one's computer prior to posting, something that rarely is done for shorter posts), without so much as an explanation of of why. It had the same ring as the subject of the closed threads regarding the closure of Holy Trinity, CT. Secrecy.

Except for those who may have read or posted in the thread, all the ideas have been lost. It would be understandable had there been a computer glitch, but it came at a time when there was a flurry of post deletions and noticeable censorship.

It has left enough of a bitter taste for me that I feel less welcome to post on the Kliros forum. I will still browse, though less frequently than I had last year and, save for these last few posts, post less frequently.

Respectfully,

Steve

No problem, Steve. Post when you feel you have something useful to share. Your posts to Kliros have usually been helpful.

Dear Jim,

If I have your permission to respond to your post here, why "usually been helpful?"

Is that not a back-handed compliment? Who gets to decide what is helpful?

Alex, "usually helpful" does not mean "sometimes bad". It only means that it is not necessarily something everyone will find useful all the time. In the grand scheme of things no human being offers helpful information all the time for everyone. Does that clarify my statement for you?

Steve,

as the moderator of the Town Hall forum, I have no answer regarding the deleted threads on HT. When I last checked there were 3 threads in this section related to HT that are still open. Within those threads there is a reference to a closed thread...

Hello Dolly!

And the times my posts don't make you smile - it's only when I feel compelled to be serious for a while . . . wink

A happy Lent to you!

Smile - you're on Catholic Camera!!
