Dear Brian,

Yes, good point!

But within his own jurisdiction and elsewhere, Fr. Seraphim is venerated privately as "Blessed" which, as you know, is similar to "Venerable" in the RC Church.

There is a beautiful icon of him that has been written, without halo, for such private veneration.

The term "Blessed" is also used in Orthodoxy for those saints whose holiness was unseen by the world but which was attested to by others after their repose.

In the RC Church, "Saint" and "Blessed" at first were interchangeable and there was no difference, except that "Blessed" was often a term given to a holy one by the people in popular devotion.

Later, a system of gradation in the Latin West was accepted with Blessed equivalent to a "local canonization" for a jurisdiction or territory.

The Orthodox Church follows the ancient practice in canonizing/glorifying local, regional, national and pan-Church Saints.

Alex:

My possible conversion to Orthodoxy is not something I wish to discuss on this forum. Send me an email and I will be glad to discuss it with you.

Secondly, where can I get this Icon?

It is my understanding that there is no canonical impediment to devotion to Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose) of Platina.

Dear Joe,

You are right, Bl. Father Seraphim can be venerated by anyone who has faith in his sanctity and intercession - although privately.

Such an icon can be obtained from St Herman of Alaska Brotherhood at Platina, California.

That's fine, we'll leave the other matter alone.

It is enough to know that you are still your usual vibrant self!

This topic has long wandered from our friend Joe's original notice. Some of these new matters are certainly worth discussing... can I suggest that we begin a thread under an imformative title?

Thank you!

Elias
