Just curious as to what famous people from the worlds of politics, science, business, sports, entertainment, literary, etc are Eastern Rite Catholics.

Danny Thomas was a Maronite Catholic...

Homeland Security director Tom Ridge *may* have been baptized in a Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic church but was/is probably canonically Latin. His maternal grandfather was for many years National Treasurer of the Greek Catholic Union of the USA and was a "Carpatho-Russian" patriot.

Former Lt. Governor of PA, Mark Singel, is a Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic.

And then there's Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic poster boy Andy Warhol... but nevermind, he lived one of those "sinful lifestyles" so we won't speak any more about that.

The late actor Robert Urich (Jurich) (Spencer for Hire) was baptized in the Rusyn Byzantine Catholic Church in Toronto, Oh. In the late 1970's, he appeared on the Mack Davis Show and sang traditional
Carpatho-Rusyn "Koljady" (Christmas Carols). I'm not sure if attended the Byzantine Church in his his later years but his grandparents and parents definitely members of the Byzantine Catholic
Church. wink

All of the following have Arberesh/Albanian origin in the Italo-Albanian Byzantine Rite parishes of Siciliy and Southern Italy:

Antonin Scalia, US Supreme Court
Perry Como, Singer
Joe Paterno, Coach
Connie Francis, Singer
Frank Capra, Director
Frank Rizzo, Mayor of Philadelphia
Joe Rizzo, Fire Commissioner in Philadelphia
(yes, Franks' brother)
Robert Schiro, Mayor of New Orleans
Regis Filbin, Entertainer
Francesco Crispi, Italian Foreign Minister
Ernesto Sabato, Writer
Gen. Galtieri, Argentine Premier

I don't know which ones of these actually worshipped in the Byzantine Rite.

In Christ,
Andrew

Fascinating, Andrew!

Celine Dion's son Rene-Charles was baptized by a Melkite Catholic priest in Canada. Her husband, Rene Angelil, is apparently a Melkite Catholic.

Dear Mor Ephrem:

I tried with those parentheses but, because I'm a big fan of Celine Dion's (and my wife swears by the theme song of the "Titanic"), I had to intrude in this otherwise informative thread. :p

Dear Mor Ephrem:

BTW, why are you here in this thread yourself?

Unless, of course, your lady friend got the better of you and she has "converted" you finally! wink

Ukrainian women know how to tame sturdy and "feral" men like you, you know. Just ask Alex! biggrin

Dear Amado,

BTW, why are you here in this thread yourself?

Because I read just about every active thread on this website, as I'm sure you do. smile

Unless, of course, your lady friend got the better of you and she has "converted" you finally! wink

Actually, you might say I'm getting the better of her, because at this point it's more likely that she'd 'Dox than that I'd Latinise. :p Of course, I'm not trying to get her to do so: much to the contrary.

Ukrainian women know how to tame sturdy and "feral" men like you, you know. Just ask Alex! biggrin

I had never heard of the word "feral", so I had to look it up:

Main Entry: feral
Pronunciation: 'fir-&l, 'fer-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Medieval Latin feralis, from Latin fera wild animal, from feminine of ferus wild -- more at FIERCE
Date: 1604
1 : of, relating to, or suggestive of a wild beast
2 a : not domesticated or cultivated : WILD b : having escaped from domestication and become wild
synonym see BRUTAL

Is this really what you think of me, Amado? Here I thought I was a nice guy. :p
