A quick quote from the newly elected Bishop...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Newly elected leader of the U.S. Episcopal Church Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori said on Monday she believed homosexuality was no sin and homosexuals were created by God to love people of the same gender.

Purely as a matter of linguistic information, the opposite of "Axios" is Anaxios! There have been any number of occasions, some of them recent, when the faithful have shouted this in protest at the ordination of one or another candidate.

One such occasion of about forty years ago which was otherwise quite tragic had a humorous side to it. The candidate who was the object of the shouts of "Anaxios" was accused repeatedly of having committed "unmentionable acts". Finally an editorial in a major newespaper of the city in question, evidently written by an exasperated editor, demanded "Will Somebody Please Mention the 'Unmentionable Acts'?"

That reminds me of an anecdote I was told by a bishop from Eastern Europe - a delegation turned up from a village parish, insisting that their priest was an absolute scandal and that the bishop must remove him forthwith. When the bishop asked just what was the nature of the scandal and what the priest was doing to bring on such negative feelings about him, the delegation from the village answered - if you call this an answer - "we can't tell you - we wouldn't dare mention it!" The bishop, of course, said that he could not take action against the priest without a specific accusation - and proof of it. It turned out that the unmentionable scandal was that the priest was - oh, the horror - SMOKING TOBACCO!

Duly shocked, the bishop asked if the priest was smoking at the altar. Well, no, he wasn't. Was he smoking in the church? No. Was he smoking in the street? No. Was he smoking in the parishioners homes? No. So where was this scandalous smoking taking place? Well, Father would go into his own house, lock all the doors, pull down the shades on all the windows, and smoke his tobacco.

The bishop then asked just how the villagers knew what Father was doing in his own house, alone, with the doors locked and the shades drawn. The villagers immediately answered "we all take turns watching him through the keyhole!"

Honi soit qui mal y pense!

PROPHECIES by St. Nilus the Myrrhstreamer of Mount Athos (1651)

After the year 1900, toward the middle of the twentieth century, the people of that time will become unrecognizable. When the time of the advent of the antichrist approaches, people's minds will grow cloudy from carnal passions, and dishonor and lawlessness will grow stronger. Then the world will grow unrecognizable. People's appearances will change, and it will be impossible to distinguish men from women due to their shamelessness in dress and style of hair. These people will be cruel and will be like wild animals because of the temptations of the antichrist. There will be no respect for parents and elders, love will disappear, and Christian pastors, bishops, and priests will become vial men, completely failing to distinguish the right-hand way from the left.

At that time, the morals and Traditions of Christians and of the Church will change. People will abandon modesty, and dissipation will reign. Falsehood and greed will attain great proportions, and woe to those who pile up treasures. Lust, adultery, homosexuality, secret deeds, and murder will rule in society.

At that future time, due to the power of such great crimes and licentiousness, people will be deprived of the grace of the Holy Spirit, which they received in Holy Baptism, and equally of remorse. The churches of God will be deprived of God-fearing and pious pastors, and woe to the Christians remaining in the world at that time; they will completely lose the true faith because they will lack the opportunity of seeing the light of knowledge from anyone at all. They will separate themselves out of the world in holy refuges in search of lightening of their spiritual sufferings, but everywhere they will meet obstacles and constraints.

...And this will result from the fact that the antichrist wants to be lord over everything and become the ruler of the whole universe, and he will produce miracles and fantastic signs. He will also give depraved wisdom to an unhappy man so that he will discover a way by which one man can carry on a conversation from one end of the earth to the other. At that time, men will also fly through the air like birds and descend to the bottom of the sea like fish. And when they have achieved all this, these unhappy people will spend their lives in comfort without knowing, poor souls, that it is the deceit of the antichrist. And the impious one! - he will so complete science with vanity, that it will go off the right path and lead people to lose faith in the existence in God.

...Then God will see the downfall of the human race and will shorten the days for the sake of those few who are being saved, because the enemy wants to lead even the chosen into temptation, if that is possible.

...Then the sword of chastisement will suddenly appear to kill the perverter.

It's later than we think.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has female bishops, too. The South Dakota Synod has one, "Bishop" Andrea DeGroot-Nesdahl.

As far as female pastors, as far as I can tell, they are rampant in the ELCA and the United Methodist Church. Some Pentecostals, who are otherwise conservative as they come, have no problem with women preachers.

One of the many facts that prompted my exit from the ELCA. So very sad ... it is causing division among the Lutheran synods but also between parishoners in the ELCA as well.

So much division ... so much encouragement for division all in the name of "diversity".

Dear James.

Thank you for posting this link, I think. I actually felt nauseous reading it. I did not know Wicca has been incorporated into the US Episcopal Church. I realize we are to be charitable to our brethren in Christ, but I for one can no longer consider those who follow this "revised liturgy" to fall within that category.

Blessed be the Lady who births, redeems and sanctifies us.
P: And blessed be all of her creation forever. Amen

C: Nurturing Mother, our hearts are open to you. You know our yearnings and our deepest fears. Purify our hearts with your burning love, that we may learn to love you more and more. Amen.

C: Loving Lady, have mercy.
P: Mother Jesus, have mercy.
C: Loving Lady, have mercy.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on us!

My wife and I were looking at this proposed 'liturgy' and she made a very deep comment:

"I wonder if these are women who believe that women are superior to men and that is why they are doing this."

What an insight! Do any of you see this possibility? Have the scales tipped from thousands of years of female suppression to male suppression? Is this the work of the evil one or is it just a yin/yang sort of thing?

Hmmm....

with that sort of rubbish, it does not take Jeanne Dixon to see that the Episcopal 'Church" USA will melt faster than a snowball in Hell in the middle of August in the South.
Even the United Church of Christ would be scandalized to sink to such lunacy. Mother Jesus? hellooooooooooooooo, wasn't Jesus circumcised? a neat trick if He was a She!
Much Love,
Jonn
my apologies to any ladies out there who might be offended, but I have been waiting for years to strike a blow against the not so inclusive garbage that barfs forth from some ecclesiatical quarters.I simply could not pass up this convenient opportunity! my, I feel great!!!!!!!!

Now, now. I am sure there is a perfectly rational explanation for this.

Maybe they believe the rabbi "overdid" the procedure? Or perhaps they saw that movie in which our Governator gets pregnant and thought the movie proposed interesting theological options worth of further exploration.

I am not sure whether from "Scripture alone" we could categorically reject either thesis.

wink

Actually, in Africa they "circumcise" females in a bloody ritual that mutilates the female organs. So theoretically it could be accurate, BUT IT'S NOT!

The lunatics have taken over the asylum and we are living in the new dark ages. frown

Today I heard that the Anglican community throughout the world will not excommunicate the Episcopal Church in this country. I gather it is because it is the Church here that is supporting most of their ministries in Africa and other places throughout the world.

In that sense, it is a terrible pity. Here they are with who knows how many people in poor countries, being supported by the Episcopal Church in this country, and yet they must accept all their indescretions and heresies. frown
