This is what we get for praying for "seasonable weather." I have maintained for years that we should indicate to the good Lord which season we mean... On the other hand, I have PROOF that there is a God, and He is merciful. The white stuff He sent us - all 15"-20" or so of it - resulted in the cancellation of the weekly devotions to St. Bingo last night. Cheers from the whitened expanse of central Ohio, Sharon

Dear Mother Sharon, You poor people south of us have all our sympathies with all that snow you've been receiving! Living in Canada as I do, I just can't imagine what it must be like . . . Shovels? You people down there use shovels this time of the year? A point of clarification - is snow that freezing white-coloured powder that can lead to quite a build-up on your walkway and make travel difficult? And a total of six of your governors have declared a state of emergency? Wow, isn't that something . . . Wear ear-muffs and keep your scarf around your mouth. That way you can warm up the air you breath as it is coming in . . . When you are outside that is! Alex

Nice to know this old gal can still do "belly flops" on the sled with the best of them! We constructed a cozy igloo in the back yard too. Hot chocolate anyone? Barbara

Alex,
We've had several "winters that weren't" since the last Big One. Ohio is nowhere NEAR as paralyzed as the poor folks in the southerly eastern seaboard, where they think salt is something you keep in shakers on the table.
This particular group of storms also tracked southerly in the state. The areas declared disaster areas in Ohio largely received not snow but ice. Tens of thousands of houses in the south & southeastern parts of the states are without power, and are likely to remain so for several days. Aside from the Cincinnatti area, those counties are also some of the poorest, hilliest and most remote areas. Here in Cow-lumbus we have good snow removal resources. (Our current mayor knows that his initial election may be partly due to the previous mayor's lack of dilligence in such matters.)
I am just fine in the snow, thank you, elegantly attired today as I am in my delicate, ladylike Gore-Tex & Thinsulate uglyboots. I'll skip the earmuffs - they tangle horribly in long hair.
Now if the idiots int he urban SUVs would just %^$#@!@#!! SLOW DOWN and remember that the laws of physics are not suspended just because one has 4-Wheel Drive.
Cheers,
Sharon

Hi gang!
Well, 26.6" later...
I have a snow drift 6ft wide and 4 ft high in front of my car. Snow up to the windows....
Thank the Good Lord I carried over 3 weeks of vacation and get another 4 weeks this year!
Talked with friends from Slovakia who are at Catholic U, they said they're used to this. Guess that explains the "seasonable weather" in OCS...
Alex, I did a new pysanky pattern today, I call it BLIZZARD. It's gorgeous, I'll have to send you pic....
