Not quite sure if this fits under the Evangelization heading or not, but here goes...
One of my car-pooler buddies belongs to the
International Church of the Foursquare Gospel [
foursquare.org] (founded by the very interesting
Aimee Semple McPherson [
en.wikipedia.org] ).
We've had a few discussions about our churches in particular and religion in general. The other day he told me his church was going to two services instead of one. I just assumed that the church (as many of its ilk are) was growing by leaps and bounds. Although they did not yet have a facility of their own, he said that they were going to two services in order to get more people involved. They would need more people to be involved with two Sunday Schools, adult Bible study groups, worship teams, etc. He said they were hoping it would be a way to get more people active in the church community and not just attend services.
I found the proposal very interesting.
He also told me that they were going to start reemphasizing tithing. At least for his congregation the practice was not overly emphasized due to the bad press, etc., that many tele-evangelists received over the last few years. He said that just because others took advantage of the practice did not mean it was a bad practice.
Anyway, thought I'd share.
