Most Byzantine Churches here is Australia are ideal for the Tredentine Rite with 3 rather large candles on each side of the huge tabernacle and 2 smaller candles as well. The 2 small ones as in the Tredentine Rite are used for the low mass/liturgy. Thankfully the Cathedral has got rid of them of the altar and but a 7 branch candle stick behind the altar. I think that despite there being a simple form of the liturgy, what we are seeing is the attempt to copy the Latin Church as it once was and bring their pracices into the Byz & other Churches. The pressure to be just another form of mass was very strong for some time and kicked in after a honeymoon phase after the various Acts of Union. Hopefully these will slide away and I think the worst already have.
