DEar Friends,
A magnificent book - as are all his books!
I also have the "Akathist to the Holy Name of Jesus" by Archbishop Raya.
He organized it to include scriptural "breaths" and the like - quite remarkable.
There was a separate Akathist to the Holy Name of Jesus (separate from the "Standard Akathist" found in prayerbooks).
I wonder where the good Archbishop found the one he based his translation on?
The Eyes of the Gospel has a powerful picture on the cover - a pair of glasses on an open Bible.

Sorry, in the reproduced copy they nixed that. It is an icon of the Pantokrator very close up. However, it is very effective.
Yes it is truly an awesome book. He is teaching so vividly the real presence of the Divine Liturgy. Being blessed to have sat under some of his teaching, this book sounds JUST like he spoke.

Alex you could never date yourself as you are FOREVER YOUNG! What they did is zoom in close to the eyes of the icon. Same idea different way, really gets the point across. I think the part that strikes me in the change of the cover is when he wrote it, the Church was pulling back from the Latin-isms that were ever prevelent - that picture, seems to me, was a very Western idea.. So now, I think using the icon, shows the healing of time that has taken place. The icon now expresses what he so loudly proclaimed in the mystery of Byzantine Worship.

Many of Archbishop Raya's books are back in print now, through the Madonna House Apostolate, founded by Catherine Doherty. You can order all the books from www.madonnahouse.org/publications [ madonnahouse.org] - they have a great publishing house!
